Re: quality battery charger

I also use an Accumate. The battery is now some twelve years old and alternates between the Morris and mower , As the Accumate is also a conditioner it is permanently connected to the battery when not on the mower or car .

Re: Quality tools

My father trained as a tool maker at Phillips and Powis ( Miles Aircraft ) prior to being called up for the RAF. He always advocated buying ( and looking after ) the best tools . I have many of his tools etc some stored in his oak tool makers chest !!!!!

If you have an ammeter could you pop it into the circuit to check the screen is drawing current when switched on .

Re: Starting Motor

Geoberni’s post gives you an accurate guide to your battery condition . From your readings my money is on a flat or defunct battery !

Re: Starting Motor

Could be many things - including a flat battery ! If you had the head lights on without the engine running you are draining the battery . It may not be a flat battery but before you start looking for other causes make sure you have it fully charged — reading 12.4 plus !

Re: Starting Motor

Stanmo may get his car started ‘ on the handle ‘ but he still needs to sort the starter motor issue— unless it is the battery , IMO the reading he gave ( below 12 ) might be the cause , and the easiest to eliminate .

Re: Starting Motor

First thing I would try is fully charge the battery and see if the starter engages .

Re: Starting Motor

I would have thought your battery should read 12.4 volts if fully charged . When you say 12 is that an approximation.

Re: Regular engine runs during winter storage?

Hi morris.john.
Your procedures sound very similar to mine , even to a battery ‘ conditioner / charger mine is mains operated. I tend to leave the car in neutral however ( its garaged ). The battery is swopped from car to mower and is now fourteen years old , coping OK.
