Re: Speedo reading half the correct speed
Hi The early smooth case boxes had a speedo drive of 4.5 to 1, later ones 2.6 to 1. Looks like your replacement box has the 4.5. You can check this by removing the cable, and counting the prop shaft and speedo drive turns. Unfortunately you have to strip the box to change them, you can't just change...

Re: dynamo
Hi Joined the D and F then connected them to the battery +ve with a lead and another from the -ve earth to the casing. It ran just like a motor, fitted to car, it charges just fine. GREAT. I still cannot understand why no measurable output on the bench, but I will add it to the long list of other th...

I am unable to get my spare dynamo to charge, I am checking it off the car. Am I doing any of the following wrong? I try the dynamo by connecting F and D together, and then a 12v bulb from them to earth, spin the dynamo at 700 to 1000 RPM. the bulb does not light, checked with meter, no voltage. The...

head gasket
Having just rebuilt my 1098 engine, and cured the crankshaft oil leak, I find I have a problem with the head gasket. A new gasket was used, and torqued down, in sequence, it is now leaking oil, from below No 3 plug and the next to end head bolt, at dizzy drive side. Any comments welcome before the h...

Re: jumps out of 3rd
Hi All The gearbox is now built up, with a 1mm spacer behind the output bearing and end cover. It is now back in the car and it does not jump out of any gears. WOW, not bad to say it was built up from the parts from 2 gearboxes. I have allso done the "conversion" to retain the 803 tail end...

Re: Conservatory roof...
Hi I assume the roof frame is UPVC, if so, there is an end cover at the lower end of the glazing bar, remove this, look up the glazing bar section, you will see there is a tee shaped cover over the glazing bar. This is held very firmly in place with male and female legs.they are part of the profile....

Re: jumps out of 3rd
Hi Now I have built it up again, using best parts, noticed main shaft gears and lay shaft gears are approx 1mm out of line. The 1st motion shaft gear and the lay shaft gear line up, it looks like the main shaft and gears are the problem, I have compared main shaft, gears, bearing, and brass bushes a...

Re: jumps out of 3rd
Both the 3rd and 4th gear are in much better condition than the hub, have I just answered my own question?, how much for a new one and where from, can you just buy the outer ring
Just noticed it is the 4th gear side of the hub I took a picture of.

Hi all A while ago I asked for ideas to help solve my problem, the box is now stripped down. Checked ideas given, all ok but, there are 2 areas I need further advice. The box was rebuilt by me using 2 old boxes. There is approx 3mm of end float in the 3/4 gear synchronizer, when assembled. The 3/4 g...

Re: Iveco van brakes
I have all the weight on there I care to put on, starting to bend 8mm backing plate. There is still no connection on the hand brake lever, it just turns, I think something is broken inside the handbrake mechanism. These units are exchange, they may not be happy if I take a bag of bits in exchange. T...
