Re: Genuine convertible?

Indeed, general engineering convention states that Left hand side and Right hand side are taken as being sat in the car, in the normal direction of travel which negates any confusion (in theory) of off side and near side.
May not remember much from HND days but that was one thing...

Re: Plastic vs metal over-riders

My first encounter with plastic overiders was when doing an oil change on a car. I'd got a bad back at the time and got hold of an overider to help pull myself up. Of course it was a plastic one and immediately snapped off, which was rather embarrassing as the owner was standing next to me at the ti...

Re: What mig wire to use, what wire to get ,difrent makes ?

Agreed, rusty wire really messes things up. Mine never sits still long enough to go rusty these days, but I have in the past had to scrap the top layers of wire on the roll to get down to the shiny stuff to weld with. Clingfilm it up or take the roll off and keep it in the house if only welding occa...

Re: What mig wire to use, what wire to get ,difrent makes ?

I changed from 0.6 to 0.8 wire a few years back, purely because the welding suppliers didn't have 0.6 in stock when I went there and as always it was urgent so I came away with 0.8 and a pack of tips. To honest, I've not noticed much difference, I guess I slowed the wire feed down a little to balanc...

Re: Genuine convertible?

A foolproof way of checking a convertible bodyshell, regardless of how well the strengthening panels have been welded on: Open the boot and feel along the underside of the lip behind the back shelf where the saloon roof would be spot welded on. If you can feel a line of bumps, ie spotwelds then that...

Be nicer if it had its original registration too. But aside from that the interior colour would need changing for me. Still like it though, but like the A40 pickup more...

Re: MOT pass - pleasant surprise

Well done for getting it tested. I've just tested a customers '55 saloon which he agreed was a good idea. Tester spotted a petrol seep from where the outlet pipe joins the tank. Tightening the union cured it, but not easy to spot when the car wasn't on a ramp. Also the car had only done about 60 mil...

Re: Sunvisors for 1957 Saloon

I had to paint a parcel shelf a while back (as you can't get white ones) and just used normal car aerosols. If you brush it theres a danger of the paint being too thick and you'll loose the embossed grain in the board. They do have a slight sheen on the finish, so matt paint wouldn't look right, the...

Re: Spotted today.

Spotted on Sunday, (Drive it Day) - a Trafalgar? blue saloon heading north on the M42 in the outside lane near Tamworth/Burton area. I was in the outside lane going south in a traveller, so was a fleeting glimpse.... No other Minors spotted on drive it day (other than those at the Birmingham Branch ...

That Minor van I mentioned in the opening post, on reflection is dirt cheap. Re: Morris Minor Million for Sale eBay

I've had a number of opportunities of buying Millions over the years. Always found that the asking price is around 2-3 times the value of a non Million saloon which has always slowed me down a bit. Maybe I've missed my chance now if this is the way prices are going....

Re: Chassis leg repair

It was only the front half leg not the full length so I think he had the axle stand somewhere round the gearbox crossmember area. Back wheels were on the ground.
I didn't get involved and left 'em to it... :-?

Re: Chassis leg repair

Well, yes you can if it suits your circumstances. You'd need to support the engine on a jack or stand and remove that engine mount out of the way. Ideally you'll need to get the car as high as possible as you'll be rolling around underneath chopping away at the old chassis leg with a grinder. As the...

Re: SAD SAD minor pictures

Just had a chat with the previous owner of the caravan. He sold the yard and retired a few years back. The black four door and the blue two door you can just see over the caravan roof were saved and still exist, though in unrestored condition. So a sort of happy ending for some of these cars☺
