Re: Preventing a theft

The GPS antenna in the box is probably passive patch design whcih will be mounted on PCB, difficult to remove and will not work on a long cable. GPS antenna on a long lead are active antenna design (in built amplitier) quite a different beast from above. the more rugged looking unit on ebay with sep...

Re: Preventing a theft

reading the instructions for the tracker it looks like it could be a useful device... I would wire it to come on with the ignition system, and add a new wire to it's SOS button. So that if someone started the car and did not disable the tracker it would start sending help messages to you. you could ...

which air box?

Lizzy is about to go in for some work, including an engine rebuild I currently have a 2 inch carb with a round mini air box wrapped round it. This has been modified so that the intake points towards the front of the car. Engine is 1275 ital. This works well enough but the modification to turn it rou...

Re: Coil Relocation

thanks

so indeed the coil is held at 12v above earth and the complete loop for the high voltage does include the battery! (not that 12 extra volts will make much difference)

Cheers

Re: Coil Relocation

yes... I know but just want to solve for myself where the 'earth' for the HT side of the coil gets back to the block 1: coil is turned on 12v one side, earth via dizzy/contacts the other 2a: when a spark is needed points open in dizzy and HT build up in coil 2b: dizzy directs 'output' to correct spa...

Re: Coil Relocation

err you can use a coil any way round you want, switching the positive or negative feed, the collapsing field would still result in a spark. what im asking is where is the 'earth path' for the spark, if I energise a coil and turn it off the other winding must be wired at both ends for it to go somewh...

Re: Coil Relocation

They fit the coil on the block so that there is a good earth for the spark,

Fitting to the inner wing works fine, but it will transmit more interference (bigger circuit for earth return) and if your earth strap to the engine is poor that will effect how well you run.

Re: Flasher units

it is always a common problem that many parts are sub-standard, especially those not labeled Just look at all the trouble non-lucas rotor arms have caused (they break down through the centre resulting in total loss of spark at the plug) always use 'branded' if possible e.g. lucas for electrical, QH ...

Re: DIY Halogen bulbs

Are halogen bulbs really a good idea? They run so much hotter and if the number we have to keep replacing in the kitchen is anything to go by they have a very short life span. I converted to LED bulbs throughout the car, you have to be very selective about which ones to use but all the replacements ...

Re: Juddering when Accelerating

another one that can cause this is lack of oil or too much oil in the carb/dashpot or generally a messy carb. The piston in there can stick or bounce causing the car to stutter a lot. remove the carb housing carefully with the piston, clean throughly and replace the oil on the dash pot when replacin...
