axle casings
can any one tell me the difference between an early and late axle casing , i see them listed as 54 to 62 and 62 on , my s2 1955 could do with a better casing so i want to refurbish one and swap it , i know the oil level plug might need fitting as i have done that when i changed the diff ,

Re: Persistent Problem at Speed.
have you tried an old original condenser rather than a new one , i had exactly the same fault on my car and i cured it by fitting an old original condenser i found in a box of bits , the new replacements are not good

Re: Transmission noise
just a thought if the noise only started after the axle change it must be a problem with the replacement axle casing possibly it is slightly bent making one or both the half shafts run out loading the diff and making it whine

Re: Automatic box conversion
the mgb engine and gearbox is a very large heavy unit and given its size i wonder if it would fit with the steering rack in it's original place , i would think the minor diff will need an upgrade as the b series has a lot of torque

i see one of the suppliers states ''wax inside before fitting '', that does not bode well for the quality or life span

Re: Late saloon rear lights
hi i posted in general discussion about the quality of the metal type new lamps and as an update to that i did get them to fit but i had to get new base gaskets to match as the castings are wider than original ,the bulb holders are too long so they hit the gasket requiring the plastic boot to be cut...

Re: Cylinder Block Casting ID
i rebuilt the original 1098 from a june 1970 saloon for a fellow club member and his engine has the fuel pump aperture machined out and blanked off with a plate ,also the sump flange is nearly 1/2'' thick and the block looks thicker / stronger all round
