Re: Are you bored? (Mathematics question)
CNC from drawings? Hmmmmm. I have some drawings here that I wanted to have laser cut but am not yet very good with the CAD freebie that I downloaded. If only I could find someone who was any good and was not very busy at work.....

Re: Are you bored? (Mathematics question)
Ta. I doubt I can blow too much into a 948 without it complaining. Not sure how much the Shorrocks will boost it by. I have a couple of sets of pulleys to play around with. The head will need a light skim, once we're allowed out. I have a couple of 10CC blocks here that I could also have bored out. ...

Re: Are you bored? (Mathematics question)
I sat down and did a bit of Algebra. It suggests about 7.95cc for the dish plus the gasket if you use standard figures for chamber volume and swept volume (237cc and 24.5cc). Does this sound about right, Phil? 3.35cc for the gasket area? If so, the change to a 12G295 would drop the ratio to 7.54:1. ...

Re: Are you bored? (Mathematics question)
AE 14396 +20 pistons (4.6cc dish?) for 8.3:1 ratio. Head is standard 2.75 inch deck.

Are you bored? (Mathematics question)
I have a 948 Minor engine here and a 12G295 head. Assuming they were standard, what would be the approximate comp ratio? I haven't yet seen if the new pistons are oversize or what the dish is, nor have I checked the head for skimming. I also have a Shorrocks Supercharger kit in a box. Can you see wh...

Re: SU fuel Pump
I've just rebuilt a pump and it makes a tick that would impress the clock in Big Ben. Sounds like a gremlin smacking the bonnet with a mallet. All the others have a nice gently clack that you can't hear at speed 9until you run out of fuel). Has anyone else had this?

Re: emblem color
Bottom pic is correct. Top pic is an Indian pot-metal repro that is best avoided. I ended up with French Blue Humbrol but it was an old tin. Not sure if it is still available

Nope. Just drill through the grille holes to line it up.

Re: Wheel size compatibility
Yours are 114.3mm (4.5 inch) PCD on the early cars. Hyundai Lantra, Volvo S40, MG Magnette, Triumph Stag etc use that size. Much easier to find wheels in that PCD but you need to check offset.

Re: Valve springs
I've finally run out of sets of double-springs and have just one set of singles left. Ford Laser in Aus might fit. Morris 8 vendors might have some since the Army had plenty of stock.

I bought and fitted a Factory Option roller blind for the rad. Ideal on a sidevalve with that massive header tank. Obviously, the numberplate didn't stay there!

Re: fuel pump
I did wonder if the inlet valve was stuck a bit open but if I leave the ign on with no engine running then it only ticks once every 10-15 seconds, suggesting that it is not leaking back into the fuel line. I'm trying to twist my brain round the idea of a leaking outlet valve...1.5 psi in the long ho...

Re: fuel pump
Strange one this week. Having brought one of the Sidevalves back into use I suffered a fuel pump intermittenet failure. Single points on it so I wasn't overly surprised. I changed it for a rebuilt one in the boot and it worked, but, the noise was like a lump hammer being used and the ticking was may...
