Re: Tracking

Don't forget to watch the rubber gaitors !! If you have a lot of adjustment to take up ...the gaitors will twist and distort, then they will split and let in dirt and water.Either slacken the jubilee clips or cut the cable ties ( replace with new ones later ) and refasten after adjustment completed...

Tracking

How do you carry out front wheel tracking? Only obvious way I can see is to repeatedly remove and adjust the ball-joint (TRE) - which might damage the ball joint in the process :(

Re: Ooooops! Balljoints

They don't cost a lot....sell them on here rather than spend money sending them back. Things like TRE etc are better bought in your local Autoparts place (not Hellfrauds...) - no postage to pay, and if you go in wearing overalls (not spanking new/clean... ) and grubby hands - and ask for a D...

Re: Ooooops! Balljoints

Yep, you have the wrong TRE, you need the small one. Weren't you asked which one you needed? My car is 1960 (1st registered) - so I ordered the ball joints for 'late '59 onwards'. Maybe my car was manufactured early '59 and stood around for a bit - or the earlier type steering rack was fitted at so...

Ooooops! Balljoints

Just went to fit new ball joint to steering rack only to discover it's too big - as in - the hole is bigger than the rack end. It must be that I have a different car steering rack??? Mini, Midget, HEEEELP! :( :( :(

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Might be worth finding out how much was originally spot welded into place, would save a lot of time and reduce posible panel distortion. I recently replaced a boot floor in a Land Rover Discovery using a £30 spot weld gun attachment to my arc welder, and filling gaps with seam sealer. Good luck with...

Looks fantastic - absolutely showroom! Apart from the 2500 + hours you spent, have you an idea what it cost you?

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Thanks, I am encouraged. This is a list of things I need to get welded providing I take everything out and get it on it's side. So please could I have some advice on what order I should do the welding work now. My plan is to get the car MOT pass and on the road. Then get it re-sprayed. 1. Centre Cr...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Have you tried Irwin bolt grip sockets? interesting product, i'll try on the weekend first then consider those. I used them recently on a Land Rover bolt that nothing else could shift it as totally rounded off and not access for an angle grinder. Soak with Plus Gas, and use a breaker bar (I actuall...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Looking at the amount of corrosion in the pictures I suspect a new wing flange will be needed anyway in which case cutting them off is not a great problem, the back 2 which also hold the bumper mount on are nuts and bolts, once the head is ground off then simply knock out inside the boot. For the w...

Re: Negative camber

The connection of top trunnion to damper arm is best fitted with polyurethane (or black nylon) bushes. These make a huge improvement to the suspension. DO NOT attempt to remove the pin from the damper arm - the bushes are easily changed without doing so. However I do fear this is not the reason for...

Re: Negative camber

Roger I am glad that you have found some wear/movement. It is always worrying until you find the answer. But still check out the rest of the front suspension to make sure that all is well. From memory I am pretty sure that the Midget top bush Pt No 88G274 has a metal insert and is different from th...

Re: Negative camber

As regards the trunnion wear only by safely jacking up (and using an axle stand under the chassis rail) under the outer end of the lower suspension arm and therefore taking the weight off the torsion bar can you determine if there is wear in the trunnions. Get someone to grab hold of the top and bo...

Thanks for that. If it's trunnion wear - will that be apparent by wobbling the wheel about?
