Re: Spray de-rusting fluid?

I used Bilt Hamber too as I don't have a compressor. Bit dearer at £35 for 2 which did inside all hollow sections. With this or waxoyl I wouldn't worry about rust inhibitors as well. If you are spraying inside a channel, insert 1" then spray as far as lance will go (not like me, I started from ...

Re: Thread sizes

Just a thank you for all involved in creating these lists, they are brilliant! I printed and laminated A4 copies and have them fixed to the wall of my workshop. I keep my AF and Whitworth/BSF spanners in separate boxes and am quite a 'smarty-pants' selecting the correct spanner first time!

Re: Top hose cracking up!

That has been attacked by ozone as it has an inadequate rubber mix in its outer layer. I'm no rubber technologist but there are waxes in sidewall rubbers to stop tyres cracking when exposed to strong sunlight or high levels of ozone. Those hoses are unfit for purpose if they are not coping with the ...

I use the hotter thermostat and the heater is absolutely brilliant. I only need the blower in slow traffic. It would be even better if I fixed the draughts from the travellers window seals...

Re: Here we go again another coil.

I had an old Bentley which had 2 coils fitted but only one in use. It seemed overkill at the time but not really a bad idea if you already carry a spare in the boot. If it is mounted suitably, whenever you have a suspect electrical fault it is just a matter of swapping wires to prove that it is neve...

Re: I have read the stickies... but what colour is our Morris?

Seen plenty of sage green minors and those wings look sage to me but the main body colour is same as dad's early 60's saloon and that was not faded (very low mileage and only 3 or 4 years old at the time). Probably porcelain then. Anybody got a porcelain green minor?

Re: I have read the stickies... but what colour is our Morris?

Glad to see the main body colour of your saloon. My dad had one the same colour, a 1960'ish I think. I was beginning to think that it was the only one as I haven't seen one like it for years. Would love to know what green it is.

Re: Dubious age cars for sale

I usually ask the eBay seller of log books if he is aware of the fraud and theft he is inviting and a typical answer is: "It s a car that has rotted away and all these parts and bits are left , so get of your high horse and move along" I then report to eBay and take satisfaction that the a...

Duplex Timing Chain

Just got round to fitting a Duplex Timing Chain (benefitting from Roy's clear-out, thanks!). The old chain was really noisy and fitting was quite simple once the radiator and grille were removed. Countersunk the 2 bottom screws (brake drum screws incidentally) and did a pre-assembly to check clearan...

Re: 1098 4-speed to 5-speed

Hence my reason for getting a 5 speed box. In 4th the ratio is 1:1 and it is just as intended with a 1098 and 4.22 axle but you have the option of changing into 5th which is an overdrive and you can reduce the engine revs by about a fifth and may even hear the radio. On some inclines it would be nec...

New 20mph zone in Bounds Green London yesterday. Police there with speed guns pulling cars by the dozen. I did 20 both ways and got aggro from vehicles following (just wished they had passed me by the speed guns!

Re: 1098 4-speed to 5-speed

Just looking at some numbers:
4.22 to 3.9 diff : 8%
4.22 to 3.7 diff: 14%
Sierra 5 speed 4th to 5th: 22%
But remember changing back to 4th is quicker than changing the axle ratio!
