Re: Clutch returned

Many issues recently with Borg & Beck clutches. Once a respected make, they're now made cheaply overseas on behalf of Borg & Beck and aren't of the best quality.

Good that you've not fitted it. If you had you'd probably have been changing it again within 2000 miles or less!

Loving the look of the Marina, even in Russet Brown! Currently looking for a Mk.3 as a daily driver... preferably a 1700HL Auto... harder to find than a unicorn! 🙄

Re: anchor point

Don't laugh at me... looking at the OPs picture, isn't it the fixing for the rear ashtray, which was attached to the transmission tunnel somewhere in that vicinity?

Re: Breakers of Bread (Short period drama) - Car needed

Might be worth contacting the London Vintage Taxi Association.

www.lvta.co.uk (also on Facebook). They can probably help locate a period-correct Austin FX3 or Beardmore taxi.

Re: MM carpet colour

I **think** you'd have to source Maroon as a special order from somewhere. Nobody seems to supply pre-made carpet sets in Maroon. Here in the UK my Series 2 saloon has a maroon interior. The carpets, renewed a long time ago as part of a very careful restoration, are definitely red (Cherokee red). I'...

Re: Fuel spill

I never fill mine up. I wait until the (undamped) gauge is flapping near the empty mark then put in 3 gallons (13.65 litres) unless I'm making a long journey (unlikely). Even then, it's a slow business if I want to avoid blow-back and spills. I can get £40 of fuel into my modern within the same leng...

Re: Exhaust raspberries

Marina TC, now they sound nice! Alan Years ago I had a standard very early 1275 Marina. The exhaust kept parting company with the manifold flange under 'enthusiastic' driving. After the third such incident I added an additional support bracket attached to the bell-housing. Never had it come adrift ...

Re: Anyone know what these two switches are for?

As an aside to your question. The white socket which is obsolete, may be of value to someone who has a period accessory (clip-on parking lamp, map-reading lamp etc). Don't throw it away; somebody may want it! 😊

Re: Correct washer pump?

Just checked that myself... you are of course correct! Didn't know that. Pictures (page 64) aren't much help either. One shows a 1959 car with apparently no screenwash control. Other is a 1957 with after-market Tudor unit fitted. I'd be reluctant to drill a hole in the dash to fit the knob though. M...

At home: Lazy Sunday coffee by Taylor's of Harrogate, or Earl Grey tea. The occasional gin (Bombay Sapphire) with tonic or cheap sparkling plonk. Out: Hazlenut latte (Costa Coffee) or Caramel Macchiato (Coffee #1). Pub: Carling or equivalent mass-produced lager. Peroni in huge quantities if I have n...

Re: Correct washer pump?

No correct type for a '63 if it's got the earlier type pull switches and pull starter. On these, washers were still a dealer or retro-fit accessory, such as the ones you name. If the later type with key-start, toggle switches and washer knob next to the wiper switch, then Wingard was the first (of s...

Re: Light Bulb.

3 watts extra won't hurt. In the past I've frequently used 60 watt tungsten bulbs in table-lamps where the fabric shades are rated at 40 watt maximum. Never had a problem. I'm in the process of changing all the bulbs in the house to LED at present. Dimmable LEDs are proving a bit problematic. It's a...

Chris. Regarding 2nd hand laptop. One piece of advice from me: Unless buying from someone you trust, always go for a refurbished. 2nd hand (non-refurbished) may have been used to download all kinds of nasty stuff, which may still be hidden in the cache.

Re: It's the rules,mate.

Definitely special training. Borrowed a mate's Transit van (short wheelbase, low roof, solid panelled sides and solid panelled rear doors) to take a kingsize mattress to the council recycling place. Wasn't allowed in because the single 'van bay' wasn't big enough to park in. To be fair, the Japanese...
