Re: Tie bar bushes

That's probably sensible, Phil - some of the roads around here are more pothole than pavement. And I do occasionally drive on gravel roads, too. Still, the rose-jointed tie bars are a great idea!

Re: Tie bar bushes

That rose-joint mod looks to be worth doing. Not very difficult or expensive for the home mechanic to fabricate, either, and naturally allows for adjustment of the caster angle. Another thing to add to the work list...

Re: Door cards

I would think high-density polyethylene would be ideal for the task - stiff, waterproof, easy to cut and form. I'm going to make a glovebox out of the stuff.

On a related note, something that's been helpful to me in my Datsun adventure is a tech wiki, which is overflowing with obscure technical details, OEM part numbers, recommendations on modern parts, guidance on mods, etc. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Datsun_1200_encyclopedi...

Due to messageboard policies we can't link to the workshop manual, but do a simple Google search for "Morris Minor workshop manual" and the first result should be a PDF. You can also occasionally find paperback versions on eBay.

Re: Datsun B210 (120Y) axle

Thanks for that, Phil. Happy new year to you too! 8) I've done some more investigating into this axle, and here's what I've found. The differential-to-propshaft flange bolt pattern is very close to a Minor's. Datsun: 45mm x 54mm between bolt hole centers with a 57mm circle in the middle (according t...

Datsun B210 (120Y) axle

Hi all, You may be aware I'm working on a 1275cc upgrade for my Mog. (Getting close to completion on that engine.) In preparation for the engine changeover, I procured a 3.9 differential, but after ~$700 spent on the pumpkin, it whines terribly, and new crownwheels and pinions are almost as expensiv...

Re: Ammeter readings

Thanks all for the obvious identification! I didn't feel like going out and looking at my wiring in this zero degF weather. On the subject of voltmeters: a voltmeter is deficient, compared to an ammeter, in one crucial area: shorts! If you have an electrical short, you know instantly on an amm...

Ammeter readings

Hi all, Not anything urgent - just a curiosity. Years ago I fitted an alternator and an ammeter (along with other gauges) in Mog. I find the ammeter absolutely indispensable, because it instantly shows if a circuit is functioning or not - e.g., when the pressure-actuated brake light switches packed ...

Re: Ignition Light Flickering

Or get an MGB alternator and forget it. 8) I wrestled with that voltage regulator for months with no luck. Went through three of them and two dynamos, trying to get the system to work - and ultimately chucked it all. No trouble with the alternator and much better charging. Though I can certainly und...

Re: Centre of gravity for rotisserie

I rolled my Mog's bare shell onto its side, supported by several large tires! Perfectly stable and easy to get around, and no harm done to the shell - though it was in fairly strong condition to begin with.

Re: Anybody building anything special over winter

What I wouldn't give for a nice cyclotron to play with... I'll be continuing my sloooow work on the 1275 for Mog, with a target installation date of next spring (or whenever it gets warm enough to do that much work outside). I'm also playing with modifications for my custom brake light switch ...

Re: We've done this before but....

I guess you'd call me a young owner - I'm 26. I've had a lot of bad going on in my non-Minor life this year, and also I haven't really been able to find the old passion for Mog. I get sick of repairing the same things over and over (&%$#! exhaust manifold joint!), and nobody else in the area has...

That's something you don't often see a Minor pulling! 8)

Alex, thank you for making this! It's something that's been needed in the Minor community for some time.

Is "tractol" intended for farm use (e.g. on tractors)? Here in the States we have "tractor paint" that is supposed to be very tough-wearing, but I haven't used it.

But, thanks to your diagram, I can certainly see your point about why it's necessary. Please keep in mi...

Distorted head stud thead in block

Hi all, Coming to the end of my 1275 rebuild! While threading the new head studs into the block, I discovered that one of the threaded bores in the block deck was distorted, such that a head stud wouldn't thread in very far - no more than one turn or so. The others screwed all the way down by finger...

Re: Rear end whine

Phil, I was assured by the supposed specialists that a differential was entirely within their capability - and in fact I had them replace the pinion seal on my 4.55 diff years ago, and it's been perfectly fine. Remember I'm in the United States. "Good serviceable units" are rare here and v...

Re: Rear end whine

Thanks for your replies, gents. The 3.9 came to me from eBay, and had been used and not taken care of after its service life - it arrived with rusty crunchy bearings, some rust on crown gear, etc. The machine shop changed the bearings and crush spacer and seal, and I believe they also changed the &q...
