National Rally Next Year

Post by Shmickle »

Im not sure who organises the National Rally each year, but who would like for it to be held in Newquay. I know other people have suggested a rally in Newquay, I was jus testing the water, and putting a pole together.

Think that might put it a bit out of reach for members up north/ Scotland etc. Nice place though! :D

Considering the fact it was basically my idea in the first place I don't think it would work at all. Firstly there is the fact mentioned above, then there is the fact there aren't really any good venues in newquay for this scale of event.

It is still to be finalised but 2005 will be a lot closer to Newquay than before! Perhaps not Devon or Cornwall but definitely not Yorkshire or even Hertfordshire!

Don't want to be secretive but it is not for me to announce exactly where it will be. As soon as it is all confirmed then details will be published in 'Matters'.

James I hope you mean 2005 as the National for next year is at Donnington Park, and if you read between the lines of Davids remarks it has to be reasonably central to get a good attendance and Newquay nice place that it is does not meet the requirements for a successful National Rally.

eeeeeeeeeek!!! :o

Actually I think it's a really good idea to move the National rally around the country as it gives more people the chance to attend, and for the 'hardcore' owners that attend every rally, it encourages different cars to be on show that might not have bothered if the rally had been further away.

Cam,

I won't let on the actual place until things are a bit more firmed up but it ain't Beaulieu.

I agree that it is nice to try to circulate the National Rally a bit although finding suitable venues at a reasonable cost is not that easy for Andrew Stone and his team. Them Lords and Ladies know how to charge when the MMOC want to camp in their front garden.

Donington 2004 is set to be a great venue. I have been there a couple of times over the last few weeks and any of you remotely interested in Motor Racing simply must visit the Donington Collection. It is quite amazing. We have got loads of space, it is reasonably central and Knebworth 2003 showed what a good turnout we should expect.

aww, Beaulieu is only 4/5 junctions down the motorway from me. I am definatly coming to any rally happening there, whether I have a mog to show or just to wander round

James Donnington is Between Derby & Loughborough if it helps use multimap http://uk2.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi? ... &down.y=15
As for next location Bristol and the surrounding area would be a central different location me thinks.
Cheers

I've been to Newquay - really sorry but it was horrible! St Ives was much nicer.

Donnington is going to be excellent next year. I went to an MMOC committee meeting there a couple of weeks ago, and it's set to be possibly one of the best Nationals yet.

The MMOC also try to move the National rally around as much as possible, taking into consideration the need for an appropriate venue that fills all the criteria and that won't brake the bank. It's also got to have a few willing volunteers on hand nearby, and it isn't always possible or easy to get help from Club members.

There are also rumours that the 2007 rally is to be held at John O'Groats.

I agree, but it was the amount of surfboards and ger**n cars that put me off!

Mind you, the last time I was there was at the Miniworld Riviera run in 1996! how time flies......................
