After 10 years of trying to buy this car,i finaly bought it today!! :D
I'm so happy! The var has been offroad since 1970. And havent been started since 1983. And what happend when i put in a battery and put some gas on it?? It started right away!!!!

Congratulations!

It looks like it may never have been welded, and that's quite rare.

Does it move, or are the brakes solid? Maybe they were all removed, the parts cleaned, and all organised into labelled, plastic bags and stored in a box in a dry place. :D Life could be a dream!

How come you suddenly got lucky, and finally took the keys?

What's the electrical item above the battery - in the transparent box - with 2 X yellow striped wires ??

It never been welded. Yes the car moves. Just tried it for a little drive. I've got handbreak. But the brake pump is stuck. But i have a anoother one.
The old man who owned it,died this winther. And i talk to his daughter today. She said i could buy it if i wanted. I now people in the Nordic Morris Minor Club have tried since 1979 to bought it :D

Seeing this makes me have a couple of questions...

1. Is it my eyes or is the car sitting higher than normal on the back

2. The door lock. On my car (series two) the handle and lock is all in one. Does anyone know when it went from seperate lock to combined and also the date that they reverted back again?

Hooray! Never been welded! That gives you great scope to end up with a really nice car.
What is the state of the underbody? I suspect it's in quite good condition. Fingers crossed!

The car does seem to be high at the back. Does it have the correct springs? It should have 7 leaf Series MM springs which are thinner than Traveller springs, or if they are not available then 5 leaf M1000 springs will do.
The lock on the two door was always below the handle, for a long time only on the right side, even on LHD export cars. The four door cars had the lock in the handle.
I have no previous info on the car.

It's the same type i have on my 53 van. But on this car i will take them off!!

Happy days!!!! Glad to know another one has been found and will be put back on the road were it belongs :D

Yours is older than mine, is it a 1949? Mine is chassis number 48806 and it was built in May 1950. The windscreen was also falling in when I bought mine. What is the item to the left of the coil?

Yes that was my immediate impression ... have the rear arches been cut, or has the rear suspension been significantly 'highered' :o

Yes it's a 1949. I'm not sure what it is. It's on bouth sides. Look like a kind of heater or something!!

what a wonderfull find.
My fatherinlaw had a old ford pop, without heater. He stuck a pipe up against the top of the rad, and run it into the car. He then had a heater, well nearly.

Hi Kim, what a super purchase! The car looks very original with a few (minor) modifications added over time but nothing that looks too difficult to return to standard.

Your car number of 33245 is 130 before 33375 built on 1st January 1950 which makes it an extremely late '49 model. Also cool is it is only the fourth car made after the early bonnet stay with chain was modified to the later type.

What is also interesting is that it is right hand drive. Did Norway drive on the left and then change like Sweden?

So it's a late 49? What do you meen about the bonnet stay??
I also wondered why it's RHD. It have never been left hand driving on the roads in Norway.

Hi Kim,

The bonnet stay is the locking mechanism on the bulkhead to the right of the battery tray (looking from the front) that holds the bonnet in the open position. The earlier versions were similar but instead of a spring had a chain to hold the stay in the open position. Only a small detail but it is correct for when your car was made.

I have found an article in a car magazine that referred to early Minors which were exported to Sweden not having heaters as standard. It might explain why someone has tried to get warm air through to the interior using the tube shaped collar bolted to the bulkhead.
