Advice required on a suitable manual
Hi, I am new to this site. My Wife and I have owned a 68 two door saloon for a couple of years.
The time has come for me to start getting mechanically involved! I need to change the oil and filter and maybe tighten the fan belt, however the 40 or so year old manual that i have might as well be written in Japanese as the Authur assumes that the reader is more than proficient at such trifiling day to day service issues and makes no mention of such things.
Is there a book available that would take me step by step through these and other 'simple' procedures? As i am a complete novice the more patronising the better!
I very much hope to hear from someone soon. _ Simon

A copy of Haynes workshop Manual - usually about £15ish from internet. The Morris Minor Workshop Manual is also available from Ebay sellers, again about £15 Take a look at Club Regalia (left hand menu of this site) Tech Tips CD which gives a guide to the general routine maintenance of the Morris i.e. servicing/tyres changing oil/sparkplugs etc £9 or there is another longer Dvd called "Servicing the Minor" £11 videoed by Rob Thomasson our Technical Advisor

Re: Advice required on a suitable manual
haynes manuals are less than 5 on ebay including postage.. lets face it the book is probably going to get filthy so buying second hand is no hardship
Re: Advice required on a suitable manual
Haynes manual - known as HBOL by the Mini lads = Haynes Book of Lies.......... It is of VERY limited use - take some of the guff you read in there with a huge pinch of salt. Your best bet would be to enroll with a Car Maintenance course at a local College - or simply join your local branch of the MMOC - and bribe fellow members with tea and scones to show you how!

Re: Advice required on a suitable manual
During the restoration of our car we found the M.M. restoration manual by Lindsay Porter ,reprinted by Haynes , very usefull. We actually have two copies as we mislaid our first one and bought another , may sell one if you are interested. It is good especially if you need to attend to bodywork issues.

You don't mention where you are, but offering whiskey may be a clue, put it in your profile and prepare to be besieged by thirsty Scotsmen .

Sorry, I thought that talk of free drink would be attractive to the Scottish, I misjudged clearly.
