Collector of classic Penguin books and to usually be found donning an outfit smothered in ink.. Designer, illustrator, caricaturist, and general Womble. I also tend to end up working on a lot of tattoo designs.
Far too much of my time is spent in the book section of charity shops.
Jobless student.
Woe is me.

Sleeping, eating, drinking and passing wind, mostly.
I do have a 1965 MGB tourer as well as the Traveller and a truly gigantic black Labrador (I borrowed my other hobbies from him) so I'm kept pretty busy.

Yeah, my sig picture is a little out of date, I've sold the blue traveller and the older car, an MGYB, and have purchased a Triumph Spitfire. I will get around to updating it soon.melanddoug wrote:pfgtz .. loooking at your signature pics, that's 3 x moggies and one properly-old Triumph.

Nice Apple, I have one of the first Mac's, with the teams signatures inside the case, that's as far back as I go with Apples. I almost have a complete set of Sinclair computers, just two missing the ZX80 and a 16k Spectrum with rubber keys, I have the ZX81, 48k Spectrum with rubber keys, the 48k Spectrum + and the 128k Spectrum +, with the heat sync down the side.

Think I've got a circa 1994 Windows 2.1 386 desktop in my loft. I have no idea why I still have it!irmscher wrote:wish i had known sooner as i threw some out about 2 months ago that i found in my loft
Last time I looked it still worked, inexplicably.

Restore/rebuild antique woodworking machines. Current projects are 1907 JM Marston 24 inch bandsaw made in Boston Massachusetts. This saw is RHD just like the MM.
Also a 1890s Francis Reed sensitive drill press made in Worcester Massachusetts.
One of the last pieces needed was a lower blade guide for the Marston BS. I read a book, written in 1907, on pattern making. The following picture is of the mahogany pattern (painted black to signify that it should be cast in iron) and the cast iron part made from the pattern. Thankfully another enthusiast sent pictures that were used to make the pattern. A very interesting project. I have used techniques used in 1907 to restore this bandsaw. Including making shellac "glue" and "crowning" the tires as it would have been done in 1907. The guide blocks were made from Lignum Vitea as the originals were.

before marriage: collecting, restoring and using all kinds of classics, especially Minors + Travelling far and wide.
since marriage: working sleeping eating procrastinating... and seaching for ebay bargains / gathering dust.
As an engineer, property developer, landlord and foster carer, there is still a bit of time left over for hobbies (e.g. last year's 5 capitals rally), but since we got Sky TV, it's much easier to watch interesting stuff than do it!

I shoot recurve, but have moved on now to compound - worked all last summer to buy the beast - bowtech 82nd airbourne.santadawes wrote:Trisherbell wrote:Not a hobby, but not my job as I don't get paid for doing it - I have a hogspital, I rehabilitate hedgehogs.
Definately a hobby is recurve archery.
I also have recently self published my first book, a series of short stories for children about hedgehogs.
Also have a husband, 2 sons, a dog and a paid (though badly) job as a Teaching Assistant.
My good wife has a keen interest in Archery. She joined a local club and has a selection of Bows. she has a long bow, and quiet a few recurves although she hasn't shot for 18 months or so she has been on about rejoining her old club.
haven't shot a a fair few months, though - car and school work taking up too much time :/

Re: what other hobbies do minor members have ????
I like to collect old stuff including retro furniture, radios, tv's etc. My house is a retro palace right down to my 1969 bright orange daintymaid kitchen.
Also do archaeology in my free time as I was an archaeologist in a former life
I have other classic vehicles which I share with my other half......a 1980 mini clubman estate, 1970 VW camper, 1964 lambretta and a 1965 vespa......its a little bit of an obsession and if I had the space and money there would be more!
Oh and if I get really bored I like to knit!
