Ive Got a Internal Heater with a Swivel knob on it, I was Wondering 1; At what point do people normally Change their Heater from Hot to cold or don't you?

Also when i turn it all the way on, there is like a seperate notch at the end of the turn. What does this do?

Thanks Chaps + Chapsess's!

Fully anti clockwise is off, clockwise is fully on then decreasing fan speed until almost off on fully clockwise.
I only use off & full on. In hot weather the tap on the engine can be turned off so the fan blows slightly cooler air.

And you turn it according to the weather on a day to day basis

Yes, it's a good question!

Theoretically maybe, the tap can be opened in winter and closed in summer, but like you say it might need opening or closing for a specific journey. I tend to leave mine open and adjust the blower fan, ie turn it down and open the quarterlights if it gets too hot. My thought is that if you keep the tap closed for any length of time there is a good chance it or the heater pipes will become blocked or leak when you reopen it.

I tend to leave my heater permanently on, and open the windows if need be.

The heater tap seems to not do a lot anyway

You probably need a new one then! The valve does wear out after many years.

Running the heater fan does put some load on the dynamo and therefore on the engine - so a small increase in fuel consumption. But it costs nothing just to let the fresh air blow through. Of course - opening the quarter lights increases drag = more fuel used. So only open them when going downhill - in neutral with the engine switched off.......

Why do I "need" one? I'm quite content to leave the heater on!

Removing the wing mirrors would compensate for the extra fuel used by the heater fan

Would be as useful in my spares box as on my wings...
