Hi all, I just thought id mention this and get other members opinions on this and on their own Mpg,

Ive just worked out tonight that my '60 2 door saloon 1098cc does 38.3mpg is this good, bad or normal.

Thats good I get just over 30 my car is a 948 2 Door

Are you working it out against a calibrated odometer?

Hi all. My first post and as a potential owner I would also like to know some mpg info. Would you expect similar consumption from all body styles or would, say, a traveller use slightly more juice than a saloon?
Either way I'd say 38mpg is good for any car of that era.

Quick answer is No.

I got my wife to follow me in our picasso at 40mph and she said she was doin 40 when we compared speed

For whatever reason this is a very 'debated' topic. With people claiming anywhere from a max of about 30 all the way upto nearly 50. This is seemingly regardless of mods or driving style, so quoted mpg figures can be misleading..
PERSONALLY my 1098 averages about 35, but in all honestly i drive her pretty hard, and not too many long motorway runs etc, however quite a bit of cruising around town/city's at 33 in 4th.
A traveler or a van will always be less efficient due to the extra weight and drag of the car, as will the engine cc. I believe the latter will make a greater distance. If looking for all round economy a 1098 will be best as you will not have to be revving it as hard at any speed.

Looks like Ill have to do the same trip in both cars to see if the mileage differs from Picasso to Minor. Then I will know for sure.

My van does only 20 mpg or less even on a long run.

Don't assume the Picasso speedo is any more accurate. My daily drive (Honda) and my wife's (Ka) are both almost 10% out according to my SatNav.

On a steady run at the weekend, I returned figures of 35.0 and 37.9mpg I was going at approx 55mph indicated on the latter mainly on the motorway and a little quicker on the other run.

Incidentally my odometer agrees with the distance figures on my satnav, so it cant be too far out....

my minor's speedo is spot on. satnav verified to be <1mph out at 70. even with my big carb, big exhaust, and big size 10 foot holding the accelerator pedal down, i fill up every 200 miles. the last fill up was 24 litres.

24l = 5.279gal.

200/5.279 = 37.88mpg

that's mostly motorway mileage, and rarely going below 70 on the motorway. with no 5th gear!

that's in a 4 door saloon for reference aswell, which is slightly heavier than a 2 door according to the manual.

when i went up to the national rally last year, i spent 200 miles sat following my dads splitty. doing no more than 55 all the way up the motorway. after 200 miles my fill up was ~20 litres. = 4.4 gal = 45.45mpg. having said that, my speedo was more optimistic then!

I only get 30 MPH because I drive to fast.

That is a pretty good average! I used to regularly get a genuine (i.e. tank to tank full) 38.9mpg in an average week- i.e. commuting, shopping and 100 miles dual carriage way.

On a long run 44-45mpg is not unusual!

Does anyone have any figures for an 803?

Im getting around 25-30 out of my 53 convertible.

That's mainly town driving though

My 803 seems very frugal on fuel and I am just starting to measure exactly how well it is doing. My initial estimate is over 35 and I drive pretty much flat out, but that is actually very slowly in a series II! Still I am pleasantly surprised as it's pretty hilly round here.

I've been keeping a fuel log for the past 1200 miles or so, to try to get to the bottom of this question! I want to keep it going for perhaps another 1300 miles before posting the final results, but as it stands I seem to be getting roughly 40mpg overall, and 44mpg on longer runs. I only do a small percentage of stop-start town driving so my figures don't really reflect 'urban' economy. Even allowing for inaccuracy of the odometer (which with a little preliminary investigation seems to be about 4% fast), I'm still getting ~38.5mpg overall, and over 42mpg on a run. That's not bad for a 41 year old car!
