It was, as far as I can remember, a situation where local branches of the MMOC were contacted by a firm that provided cars for films. My car couldn't be used as it was blue so I wasn't asked. There was a lot of extra filming that went on at Shepperton and a disued buscuit factory in West London. Certainly cars fom Surrey Hants Border were used take Celia Imrie and other stars to the premier at Leicester Square - it's quite a long time ago now.

We saw the film some years ago at our local cinema here. Our moggie was unintentionally parked right outside as we'd got there early (called misreading the programme, duh). When all the kids came out of the cinema they were stunned to see a 'real' version of those funny little cars.

The "Oxford" has been up for sale for many years now! I actually went to look at it when it was based in Yorkshire. Its a nice looking "car" from a distance!! but is really only a "Film Prop" at the time (2006) it needed an awfull lot of work if it was ever to see the road. The previous owner had invested a lot of cash on the surface to make it look "pretty" interior, paint, roof etc. It did go but the standard of engineering was appalling! The whole car was out of line! the prop was held together with exhaust clamps! and you couldnt shut the doors when someone was sitting in the car!! From what I remember there was no logbook, it had never been checked for road worthiness ( it wouldnt have passed!) it needed an sva and lots of other checks before it could even be presented for an mot. It would make a nice museum piece (it was at the cars of the stars in Keswick for a time but wasnt very popular with the public) or something to trailer to shows. The guy wanted £10,000 at the time! a lot for a"toy" (at least it was for me!)

From what I heard there was insufficient strengthening in the sills and it sagged a bit in the middle.

As I said it was back in 2006 when I looked at the car, someone may have invested a "LOT" of time and effort in getting it roadworthy, has anyone ever seen it on the road or at any shows?
First registration in 1986! when was the Borrowers movie made?
Date of liability 01/04/2010 - Status - Unlicensed!! Hmmm looks like someone will be getting a letter from the dvla demanding money!!!

From what I remember the chassis had been extended with round tube (like scaffolding tube!) bolted and welded into place, it looked horrible! Also Im sure the engine was a ford 2.0 the original engine was still with the car though.
Still its an unusual looking vehicle and hopefully with its film history it should find someone who will look after it.

Seen here at my local show in, if memory serves me correctly, 2008:

I know of the people who owned the car at the time (one family member being a mechanic/bodyshop owner), and I believe quite a lot of work was done to get it roadworthy.

Car is back on the road as of yesterday. It's had some work done by ourselves. Service, floor welding etc. It's solid underside and runs/drives well. The interior is ok, although it does need a new front carpet section as it got damp in storage and is now threadbare! and it has a brand new headlining.
