AA Badges

Post by Ondergard »

My mother-in-law died a couple of weeks ago, sadly.

I have been clearing her bungalow, and have come across a couple of old AA car badges which must have been on my father-in-law's cars some time ago.

I don't need help about the numbers - the AA website has shown me that the numbers stamped on the badges are issue numbers, not membership numbers - but they show that the older of the two badges must have been issued before or during 1957, and the younger in 1966-67.

As we were both born in 1957, we'd like to put the older one on Betsy Blue (I am a member of the AA anyway), but although the chrome is in good nick, the yellow-painted aluminium backing to the chrome badge has quite a lot of paint gone from it - it's back to base metal in some places which show!
Does anyone know either whether it's possible to get replacements for the aluminium backing, or failing that a paint code for the AA yellow so that I can respray the backing?

I've taken one apart and repainted it using Hammerite smooth in their bright yellow. Perfect match!

When I first bought my Molly Minor my neigbour gave me an AA badge and the aluminium backplate was badly in need of a coat of paint, I used this from Wilco motosave

This also was a good match, since then I noticed you can buy from the same place a can of AA Yellow spraypaint.
