Original Style Seats That Recline?

Post by mollythemoggie »

Hi just wondering if any of the bmc cars came out with the low-back seats like in a standard mog but ones that recline?

I was looking for some new front seats and my wife likes taking a nap as we cruise down the highway!

Would the low back seats give enough support/comfort to take a nap, if reclined?

Yes, such seats were available. In most respects, the same as a normal Minor seat, but with a chrome lever on the outside edge at the base of the backrest. Lift lever and push back to recline, or lean forward and spring loading raises the back. Release lever to lock in required position. Very comfortable 8)

I have them in my Mark 2 Jaguar, but they are much bigger seats. Still not comfortable enough for me to sleep in, because there is no support for head or neck.

What do you mean by bmc1800? Is that an Austin 1800?

I've seen some in mgbs but finding them is the problem!

Then of course there was the Austin Maxi which came equipped with a six foot double bed which folded up to make seats if you had the misfortune to have to drive the thing

The reclining front seats were available as an optional extra very late on in production. They are very rare now and, in fact, I've only seen pictures of them. I also would love to find a pair to fit in my '69 Traveller but I don't hold out much hope of that happening.
