Special Present for my dad

Post by poggy »

It's my father 80th in a couple of months and I am keen to find him something different. He bought a brand new Morris Minor when he was 25 and took it to loads of countries touring. Ever since I was a kid he has been saying how good they are and if he could drive again he would have one. Sadly he went blind in his early 40's, so had to give up driving.

Anyway I would like to get him a front seat from a Morris Minor and have a base made to make it into a normal chair for him to use in the conservatory. I guess I will probably have to get it trimmed as well unless I find a good one.

I have looked on Ebay but there are none available, are there any breakers who specialise in Morris Minor parts or any dealers in that sort of thing.

Thanks

What a lovely idea I've thought of doing the same before. Sort I can't help with any breakers but I'm sure there are some for sale on here or someone who has lots of spares. :D

Just J-j-j-jiggle it a bit.

If you have not got a Minor, I'm sure that someone in your area would be prepared to let him sit in the driver's seat to feel the controls and then give him a ride on his birthday
You should find a seat in the parts for sale section. You will need to fix it to a base and bolt it down front and back

Yes - I think a ride in a Minor would go down well. You can probably get a NEW (or fully retrimmed) seat from Newton Commercial. http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/morris ... model-183/

Thanks for the replies, a kind member on here has offered me a chair for free which I can re cover. Just need to arrange to get it to me by courier.

I have looked at the different ways to make the base and settled on a hardwood base, stained to match the maroon seat cover I plan to fit.

I did have a Morris Minor with the plan to restore it, but it needed too much welding so after a year I passed it to somebody who was keen to get it back on the road.

I am hoping to rent one for his birthday though. :D

Once I get it done, I'll post a photo.

You don't tell us where you are - maybe some kind owner near you would be willing to take you and Dad out for a spin in a Minor!

What a lovely idea! I think that's heartwarming and brilliant. Wish I could give you and he a ride in my Mog -- but sadly I'm a world away and Mog's not running! Tell us how it goes...
