Many owners use the message board when they have problems with their Minors and there are experienced owners who are willing to help. Often it takes some time to diagnose the problem as they are working from a distance and cannot actually see the problem, which they could if they were looking under the bonnet to spot a loose wire or something. They therefore have to run through a mental check list. Some problems may require going out to the garage to check a part on their own car, maybe take a photo or dig a part out of the spares box. Other enquiries may need researching through reference books. A question may take half an hour to answer, all unpaid and in their own time.
It would be nice therefore if the person asking the question could be bothered to answer a simple question when required or have the courtesy to inform the researcher if the problem has been solved and thank him for his help instead of just disappearing from the message board until the next problem arises.
I appreciate that this does not apply to everyone but a significant number however. I propose that we keep a note of the people concerned and refuse to help persistant offenders. Research costs time, manners costs nothing

Well said - but there will not be any official lists. Personally I think posting a list would be kind of iffy with the T&Cs, but nothing to stop you keeping your own list

I fully agree with this but we should also ensure that we encourage a possitive answer and not be negative or have a laugh at the request for help as I have sometimes seen on the forum answers. Without doubt some members have a vast amount of knowledge so this should always be aimed as a possitive reply

When people come here for help I don't think I have seen a post where someone gives negative answers... unless someone is planning to do something dangerous!

I was waiting for the good old t&cs to crop up----now they've been mentioned why not stick a courtesy clause in. Then if an acknowledgement is not forthcoming ban the individual!! :D Problem solved.

Nothing to stop anyone from publishing a list of courteous people.

Hi,
Whilst I agree that manners cost nothing and a simple thank-you is easy to type, I do not think that making a blacklist of people who may have simply forgotten to do so and then refusing to help them when they need some in the future is a very nice attitude to take either.
At best you are lowering yourself to the standards you accuse them of and at worst you could end up making the club look unpleasant and unfriendly.

At this point however, if I have forgotten in the past, I will add a big thank-you to all those who have offered their advise to me in my moments of need.
Best wishes,
Mike.

My comments were not aimed at the occasional absent mind, more at the persistant offender. Reading this topic may solve the problem

Some messages I receive are simple questions, with NO please or thanks.

Perhaps these people still enjoy crayons and colouring books?
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Earn interest on the balance at month end?

That will help those that are forgetful.
