Someone once said that a bit of diesel mixed with the petrol once in a while actually did the engine some good, giving it a sort of de-coke, whether that is true or not I dunno.

Diesel is heavier than petrol so if you let it stand on level ground and settle, undo the drain bung on the tank and let out your 2 pints of diesel plus a bit. Put the bung back in as soon as petrol is coming through. Then you should be ok.

There wasn't a lot but it will get sucked through the system first as is at the bottom, so you need to get it out quickly before it gets in the carb. Might be worth cleaning the carb out anyway.

Even if it is running ok, it might be worth taking the bung out again after a week and dropping a small amount out of the tank to make sure there is nothing still in there.

Great idea, bungs in fuel tanks!

Just run it - it will be fine. Probably wisest to run it till the tank is down to 1/2 way and brim it again with petrol - it will help dilute the remains of the diesel. It's only modern tat that gets broken by very small amounts of misfuel - old school carb petrols and mechanically injected diesels will usually tolerate at least 10% of the wrong fuel no problem (my series landrovers often get all sorts of mis-fuel I get given thrown in the tank, never caused any drama's yet)

You don't say what car it is, if it ia a minor the worst you might get is oiled plugs and somed difficulty starting on cold mornings, much the same applies to other cars as long as it does not have a catalyst they will be fiine.

Don't think it will separate ,the petrol will simply dilute the diesel, same happens when you put petrol in a diesel just fill up with right fuel and its ok. Not too sure about a modern with fancy electronics . Management system might shut it off if it discovers the wrong fuel.

Pretend it was some cheap upper cylinder lubricant.

Absolutely just run it - don't keep topping up - just run it right down and forget about it. There is NO HOPE of draining it off at the bung     It will decoke the engine nicely. The opposite problem - putting petrol in a diesel - is death to any modern diesel engine. If that happens - don't even start it to pull away from the pumps......

Funny how they made the petrol nozzle small so it will fit into the filler of a modern diesel causing total destruction, dya think they're in league with the car companies . They should have an audio warning on the pump

Somehow I manage not to put extra expensive, added snake oil, fuel in any of my vehicles.

Can't get it wrong on our modern, Fords now come with a capless system you can't get the wrong nozzle in.
