Well that's the problem in a way. We do take suggestions on board and press for change here and there but there's only so much spare time available when you've also got a full time job to do. At the end of the day we are just club members the same as anyone else, and pressing for change here and there is something that all club members can do.
This has been discussed a lot here but unless traders change their minds, and are happy for negative comments to be posted here without feeling the need to threaten legal action against the club, I don't think that anything will change. You mention ebay and I think we've all probably seen instances where negative feedback has been left by buyers which, judging by the seller's response, is completely uncalled for. I would certainly have some sympathy for any trader/supplier who lost business because of unwarranted criticism posted about them on an internet forum. We've had instances on here where people have posted negative comments (without naming a trader/supplier) and other people have asked to be sent their name via pm so that they can avoid using them in future. However without knowing the full details it is very difficult to take a balanced view of what's gone on. And even with just a short delay between someone posting something negative and the other party responding, business could still be damaged and money lost.
I agree that not being able to 'name & shame' does seem unhelpful but there are always plenty of recommendations posted here so it does give an indication of where to go for parts, service etc. And if unsure about which traders / suppliers to use members can always post up a message to ask, or seek a recommendation from their local branch. I buy parts myself and go by the recommendations on here. Sometimes there is just a bad batch out there and the supplier is happy to replace the item without quibble. And there are a lot of poor quality parts out there which are supplied to the same traders because customers don't want to spend too much money on anything. In relation to bad service, sometimes you just get someone on a bad day, or when they are short staffed etc. So I appreciate that the rule about not 'naming & shaming' might seem 'stupid and unjust' to some but it can be both a positive and a negative thing to do and it is very difficult to get the right balance.
Believe me, if we didn't have a sense of humour we'd all be long gone! How about pressing for a change to the T&C's for all messageboard members to have a sense of humour and anyone found not in possession of one can receive 2 warnings before being banned?

I think that members SHOULD be able to "name and shame" in the same way as they can praise. To me, that rule which prevents us from doing so is as stupid and unjust as the eBay ruling which prevents a seller leaving negative feedback on a buyer.

A few people have posted generic comments like "windscreen rubbers are rubbish" - but only 2 people have actually given me any additional information which would allow me to present findings to suppliers - and thats just not enough. At the end of the day moderators are only here to uphold the forum rules - we don't have any more influence over the comittee than any other member! So why arn't YOU trying to change the rules?

I have to agree that the moderators do a difficult job extremely well: yes, they'll make the odd misjudgement, as we all do, but on the whole, this is one of the best-run messageboards I read.
Back onto the topic of RH. I insure three classics with them, and although I've never had to claim, I know a few folk who have and they've been dealt with extremely well - for example, allowing them to choose a repairer with specialist knowledge of the particular cars. This is nominally through another Club's "Recommended Insurance" scheme, which seems to offer two benefits: a 10% discount on premiums (though I've never tried to verify that this really is the case); and an absence of admin fees for such things as changes of driver or early removal of a car from a multi-vehicle policy. They did once try this on with me, when I added a car mid-term, but soon pulled back when I read them their advert in the Club Advertiser, so it may just have been an uninformed clerk. Their breakdown and recovery scheme (no extra charge) seems well regarded, and includes continental cover, I gather. They'll also cover wedding hire, either "per occasion" for around £12-£15, or unlimited within your overall mileage limit.
Although they will cover newer cars under their "Classics" policy, I haven't found them competitive - they wanted £360 for a middle-aged Tonka-toy.
While they won't suit everyone, would the Club consider trying to negotiate a scheme with them? Or is the deal with FJ an exclusive one?

Been with RH 18 months, was with Peter James for many years before but moved due to cost, not had to claim with either so can’t comment on service because I believe that’s when you really find out if they are any good or not.

Just changed from Footman James to RH insurance for the renewal of £87.88 for my wife and I.
Last year I paid £161.53 to Footman.
Unlimited mileage and agreed valuation of £6000 includes breakdown and european cover.
I rang Footman James yesterday for my renewal figure and too ask if i was eligible for the new £90 policy and they couldn't answer even though my renewal is on 03/02. Just said they were checking all current policies to see if they could qualify for the £90 one and I would be sent my renewal by post. I had the impression they were very busy and all i wanted was my renewal figure which they couldn't tell me. Thats a large price difference.

the best (out of two )rear window rubbers was from bull motif ,the other one from a local supplier, I took back in bits and received a refund ,for the part ,but nothing for the waisted time and effort or blood pressure tablets or box of choc's for the Mrs

Can't post on my original FJ thread, as for some strange reason it's been locked.
Anyway, the new broom at FJ's has certainly swept clean as I feared it would.

Perhaps someone in here would like to try and explain to me EXACTLY how this works please....before I actually self combust?

Poor girl got it both barrels. Not her personal fault, so apologies for my sarcasm and slightly agitated tone.
Won't do a limited mileage
Currently unrestricted and includes foreign cover too.
Both unwanted.
She only drove Moggsy 800 miles in the last 11 months!
Reduced the price down to £566...suprise suprise when you mention taking your business elsewhere.
Still far too dear though imo under the circumstances as outlined in my first rant ^^
The hunt now begins, or ther'll be a very nice Moggy going up in the For Sale section in a couple of months.

I use RH also after years using Peter Taylor.Theyre also good insuring modified cars.My '54 Wolseley has a 3.5L Rover V8 and 5 speed box,MGB axle and front disks etc etc,£140 for the year.On the policy my Moggy is on I had a Cortina 1600E too,rang them yesterday to swap the Cortina for a '68 Ford Mustang convertible with a 302(5L) engine,fair enough theres only 4 months left to run until renewal but the total charge was £11.50!

Rang Adrian Flux this afternoon.
£700 was the closest they could get, which is actually a significant improvement on last years quote.
Absolutely loathe and detest this gross time wasting annual 'merry ring 'round'
No wonder some just accept and have their tummies tickled by the re-newal quote. Less stress I guess, but for me, it's an annual unwanted fight to the very last penny.
I would spend a pound to grab a penny back off these *******sters.
