Did Minor saloons have black seats?
My 1969 Minor saloon has black seats. Black seats are fairly unusual and were generally fitted to Snowberry White cars from 1968 onwards. Another (small) givaway that this is an earlier car is the absence of a door lock on the passenger side. These were introduced around 1963.

Rare or not I'm not sure ... decide for your self after checking these details:-
Production Changes

September 1959 Combined inlet and exhaust manifold.
During 1960 HS type SU carburetor introduced, Engine No. 9M/U/H 353449.
October 1961 Windscreen washers fitted on De Luxe models.
April 1963 Fresh air heater introduced. AND Air intake on radiator cowl.
Redesigned windscreen washer system, #1039564.
October 1963 Windscreen wiper blades lengthened and now work in tandem.
New design combined side/flasher lamps at front and rear.
New type air cleaner fitted to prevent carburetor icing in cold weather.
Nearside (front passenger) door lock fitted to two-door models
October 1964 Automatic boot lid support. Crushable sun visors. Plastic rimmed interior mirror.
Two-spoke safety dished steering wheel.
October 1966 Sealed-beam headlamps fitted.
October 1967 New type paper air cleaner element introduced, #1196653.
--- 1970 During the last months of production some models were fitted with an alternator instead of a dynamo.
November 1970 Saloon production discontinued. Final Car Numbers, two-door saloon #1288377.

The issues in BOLD are NOT on this vehicle ...... WHY?

I also got ''fobbed off'' by the 'seller' when I phoned ??????????

If the new owner washes up here then this thread may be of great value to them.

One cannot re-register a vehicle to make it years younger,
It's suspicious in the extreme, that's why i pointed it out. quote]

Well you can't now, but it was possible in years gone by. Look at all the ex military travellers on R, S and T plates for eg...
Still suspicious...

The Minor 1000 with the larger rear windscreen and one piece front windscreen was announced in October 1956. I don't think anyone is suggesting that this car started as an earlier model than that

It has now been removed from ebay.....

Quite apart from the dash/scuttle difference...

Older than 10/56 (on MEGA 1000 to S11 id conversions) you'd be looking for wiper motor bkts on nsf inner wing,or signs of one.

THEN you're looking at whether square 1956-59? or later type used up until end of production.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

The ebay seller assured me the previous owner was taking the car back.....I'm now getting abusive emails from that previous owner, saying he had the car for 4 years 'and no trouble from DVLA' - so that's alright then ! Watch out for it cropping up again on ebay - or gumtree......

Roy,
I'm sure that under the Communications Act, abusive phone calls, text messages or emails/social media messages are an offence that can result in the sender/caller having their facilities/accounts ceased (has to be more than one message).
see http://www.inbrief.co.uk/offences/sendi ... emails.htm

The eBay seller, when responding (yesterday at 06:40) to my observations replied with
"give me your number mate"
I never got around to replying, maybe just as well.

Regards,
George.

He also asked me to phone him - or give him my number....... I wisely declined. I get more than enough unwanted phone calls already! I am accused of 'harassing the seller' when in fact all I did was ask questions about the age of the car - which were never answered. Hopefully it will all die down now - and the sale of a 'ringer' has been at least delayed.

I asked the seller for information as to the Vin / Chassis No as shown on the V%5..... His reply today was

''gone back to the man I had it off I had my car back his number is [NUMBER REMOVED - PM ADMIN FOR DETAILS] ''

Anyone want to contact him???

It would have been nice to have been given a logical explanation for the changes, failing that one has to think the worst.
We still have the ability to spot dodgey cars on ebay but they can still get through on the club "Cars For Sale" as the ability to comment has been removed. I still remember getting a slapped wrist for challenging a Series MM choptop

It's ironic to think if the wipers had been in the "parked" position, the claphands may have gone un-noticed!

We'd have still picked up the LRBM and absence of solenoid.

Wonder what's become of it?

The owner for last 4 years has the car back - he has contacted DVLA and given them the reg number - and they confirm to him that it is a green 1970 Morris Minor - so that's all ok then !!
