Concourse Dissapointment
Spotted this on ebay, I suspect any buyer may be disappointed on entering a competition with this one or maybe it was a factory reshell ?

Who's going to inform him?
"He should know" as he says himself in the listing

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
That car is no earlier than late 1967 I reckon. Somebody has done a little to disguise the dashboard - and fitted some pull switches but the positions are wrong because the later switches were closer together. I assume it doesn't have a pull start because you can see the later type of solenoid in the underbonnet photo. Oh, they did fit the earlier gloveboxes and steering wheel too, so.....
3 points out of 100 for 1959 specification??
Good luck to any unsuspecting buyer who DOES enter it in a "concours"

i think the concourse judge would have a field day just under the bonnet alone , sound proofing panel , washer pot need i go on ,

Where are you BMC
Re: Concourse Dissapointment
Just seen this post and looked at the ebay listing, to add to the confusion using the DVLA check it does show it as a 59 vehicle.

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
To be fair to the seller they do not state that it is concourse but what they do say is that with some detailing work it could become suitable for concourse.
Anyway if it is as good underneath as it appears to be on top I consider the price to be reasonable even if some of the detailing is not correct.
Not everyone want a true concourse car.

That is because the registration details, V5 document etc. ARE from a 1959 car. The CAR itself is a later model.BAS587 wrote:Just seen this post and looked at the ebay listing, to add to the confusion using the DVLA check it does show it as a 59 vehicle.
The DVLA won't be aware of this unless it is brought to their attention.

Isn't taxed,MoT'd nor Insured.millerman wrote:Does it matter

If involved in a major accident - causing injury or death - owner would be in the poo.
Plus where did the donor vehicle come from?
The "Does it matter" attitude is daft.

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
The car was advertised for sale in Sept. 2014 for £3995 and was listed then as having a 1098cc engine.
It is now (wrongly) claimed to be a 948cc.

It's taxed & MOT'd until September - how do you know that it isn't insured??POMMReg wrote:Isn't taxed,MoT'd nor Insured.

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
It has clearly had a replacement bodyshell or at the very least a replacement cab and bulkhead at some point, it may have been a replacement factory shell and therefore legitimate to retain its 59 registration...but any buyer will probably only find this out if entering a concourse competition. Or indeed it may be just a later car with early number plates fitted which could cause problems with insurance etc...
There are I suspect large numbers of cars out there in this same situation..

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
It's insured IF it were a genuine 1959, seeing it clearly is not...it cannot be insured.LouiseM wrote:It's taxed & MOT'd until September - how do you know that it isn't insured??POMMReg wrote:Isn't taxed,MoT'd nor Insured.
Identity is MoT exempt, vehicle itself isn't.

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
I can't imagine a concours judge knowing if another bodyshell had been fitted, most cars entered into this sort of competition are completely stripped and rebuilt anyway.

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
That adds nothing to the confusion, it's just a computer record of a 1959 identity. DVLA check would say it's a 59 minor if you put that reg on a brand new Toyota or a 100 year old steam car.BAS587 wrote:Just seen this post and looked at the ebay listing, to add to the confusion using the DVLA check it does show it as a 59 vehicle.

Re: Concourse Dissapointment
Just contacted seller who was unaware, very concerned and is contacting the previous seller. Dependant on the response he may have to withdraw the car from auction.
