cold heater

Post by Bill4342 »

Hi,
Just fitted round heater to my 54 splitscreen. New mechanical take off valve, hoses & return to btm of rad. Flushed & refilled system. Run engine up to operating temp but heater hose only gets hot as far as bulkhead. Removed hose from btm of rad, connected garden hose & water flowed thro htr & out block drain tap. Cannot access htr hoses in situ. Heater fitted under centre of dash. Help!!

Bill.

probably air locked, squeeze, the hose by hand to try to pump the air out of the system.

As above - likely an air lock. I've always found that just taking the car for a run, so the revs increase and decrease over a period of time, gets rid of the air locks. If it's just been sitting idling up to temperature, there isn't enough flow to shift the air.

Sorry folks--jumped the gun -- went for a run today and within a mile hot air belching out- Had to turn switch down!!! Yesterday only fast tickover on driveway obviously not enough pressure in system. Well pleased. Thanks for replies.

sometimes a run up and down steep hills can shift the air
