Morris Minor Kit Car

Post by Tea »

Has anyone ever seen a Morris kit car before? A friend of mine is certain that in the 60s/70s there was such a thing. Apparently it didn't look much like a Minor, a bit like how the Mini Marcos kit cars don't look like the Mini. As he's doesn't use the internet I said I'd have a look for him and ask on here, but I'm yet to find anything on them.

Did/ do they exist?

They did indeed exist and they did not look anything like a minor.
I believe that about 12 kits were produced and several still exist.
The kits were produced in the west country.
I do have the full details somewhere and which were printed in Kit Car magazine.

Excellent! If you have any info that you could pass on it would be much appreciated. Whenever we are at auctions, he's always searching and occasionally thinks he's found one, only to be disappointed. He says he's still kicking himself for not buying one that he had the opportunity to purchase years ago.

The closest I got to purchasing a Kilo Sports car was to enquire as to whether the chassis was available separately from the whole kit as I was at the time considering building a hill-climb special based on the Kilo chassis and utilising my power/drive train.
Some time ago there were two for sale on 'e' bay but located in Italy if I remember correctly so they are spread far and wide.

Russell Harvey has just sent me two articles on the Morris Minor Kits cars that appeared in the Nov 2009 & Oct 2009 Minor Matters.
In the article relating to the Kilo Sports Car there is reference to a Kilo Spots Car which after a convoluted ownership was sold and sent to Italy.
I am pretty certain that is the one advertised for sale in the link above as it closely fits the description in the Nov Minor Matters and included in the sale are the original English licence plates.
Any information regarding any of the Kilo Sports Cars would be appreciated.

Perhaps the sale to the young lad did not go through as planned for whatever reason and is now for sale on 'e' bay.

Could be. He does have two travellers and used to keep the Kilo in a workshop that he no longer rents so is restricted for space.

Articles were Minor Monthly not Minor Matters.
When I was editor and ran several features on Minor based kit cars

If anyone has details of kit (or race) cars made from Minor parts I would love to hear from you.

Sold for £3100. Seems a sensible price.
