Lost keys

Post by Sarah Densham »

Hi all
I have lost my keys to 1971 1098 Traveller and have given up hope of finding them. No number on the front panel.
I know it is not advised to receive replies to this question on here, so please could you PM me if you can possibly help with advice.
Thanks

Most fp /fs keys will fit and some will even turn and start the car as they and the locks are so worn. Gaydon may have a record of the original key number with you car's history, I think some had the number on the barrel which is not that difficult to get out - I did mine with the speedo out . (disconnect the battery as inevitably contacts will touch others) Earlier cars like mine had the number ( helpfully for thieves ) on the front of the barrel and the door barrel.

AddPk Minor's all FS 9xx keyed.

Or do you mean the Neiman lock?
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

When I got my '72 beetle it only had one set of keys, I kept meaning to get extras cut and predictably they got mislaid before I did. The local key/security shop had blanks that worked perfectly...makes you wonder why they bothered with keys at all. Oh, and I found the originals in my toolbox a week later.

Keys to my Minor opened every other Minor I tried. Fords used to be the same.

They are easy to replace. Door locks on a 2-door would take me a couple of hours (worst case) to replace and the ignition key and boot lock are maybe 10 minutes each.

Where are you? I'm near Cardiff. Others have mentioned that the locks are almost always so poor that any old screwdriver will 'crack' the lock open. failing that, any locksmith can pick one in under 10 seconds if they are anyway decent at the job.

when I got knicked in 1992 for affray, the old bill never gave me my keys back. they insisted I never had them on me. that was rubbish. I did and took them to court and got them to pay for new locks for my car. 8)
