Images in Signature

Postby Admin » Thu Mar 01, 2018 2:04 pm

I've just seen some more posts about difficulties adding images to your signatures, so here is what I hope is a definitive set of instructions. They should be relatively simple to follow, and will definitely work if followed correctly!
  1. Navigate to your Signature settings page. Click 'Private Messages' > 'Profile' > 'Edit Signature'
  2. Click the IMG box. Two 'tags' will appear, and your cursor will be placed between them
  3. Enter the full path to your image file online - for example, http:// mysite.com/ myimage. jpg or similar. The image must be smaller than 860 pixels wide and 265 pixels tall, and must be hosted online (you cannot 'point' to an image on your own computer)
  4. Ensure that the 'Disable BBCode' box is not ticked.
  5. Click Submit. Your signature file will now have your image shown (I've just used these steps to put the picture in my own signature which you can see at the bottom of this post!
"Hang on though, my chosen picture is on my own computer and not online anywhere"

Okay, you'll need to perform a few additional steps to get your file online first.
  • Go to the Off Topic forum and find the 'Signature File Attachments' thread. Using just this thread to create the attachments will help in not having posts all over the boards just adding files!
  • Just place one or two words in the post area, and then scroll down the page beneath the Save Draft, Preview, and Submit buttons.
  • Click the Attachments tab, and then click Add Files.
  • Locate your chosen file on your computer. It must be less than 400kb or your file will fail to upload and you will see a warning triangle in yellow at the end of the line. Otherwise, you will see a green tick (it may take a few moments while the image is uploaded first).
  • Click Place Inline, and then scroll up the page again to the post content and you should see some code alongside the words you placed there. Click Submit, and you should see your post with your image. Your image is now online, and all you need do is follow the steps at the top to 'point' to it.
  • Click your right mouse button on your picture, and from the menu that appears select 'Copy Image Address' if you're using Chrome (if using a Microsoft browser click Properties and make a note of the image URL - it'll be something like "http:// mmoc.org.uk/ uploads/mmoc_sig.jpg" ) and then follow the steps at the top of the page and enter the address at the appropriate point

I quite liked the Foggy Dewhurst (or was it Victor Meldrew) headgear

If a flat cap was good enough for Mike Hawthorn it is good enough for me.

I wear mine most of the time especially when it is cold and damp.

Goes well with the Barbour jacket and hunter wellies

An utter legend, stolen from us before he achieved his full potential. If I hadn't already modelled myself on James Bolam, this bloke would be in the running :D

Hey,

Is anyone else having issues entering the "Image" code with the file name, but only in the signature?

It works perfectly fine in a message like this, example here:
Image

For some reason my signature with the same doesn't work however,

I'm having problems.
Because of the pixel size limit I'm now down to 352x264 and just 47Kb, but still I only get the 'download hyperlink' show up!

Tried some more.
I'm putting in this ....Which here in the main 'box' works but doesn't in the Signature!!!

But when I try and Submit, this results.... see how 'IMG' has changed to 'URL'

As with CrazyPropGeek , it's just not working for me. I've even tried it with other peoples images. The only one where it did work was with Admins original post and that image isn't hosted on this topic....

What's really frustrating is that I can do it no problem, using the same image, on another forum that is 'Powered by phpBB'.....

:D
Gave up trying to 'host' the image on the mmoc forum topic and used a 3rd party image hosting site instead.....
I can recommend using https://imgbb.com , but remember to resize it to the limits given before you upload it.
