Morris Mosquito Model sold for the price of a real Minor

Post by MorrisMinion »

I was surprised to see that this 1943 model of a Morris Mosquito appeared in a Hanson's Toy Auction in November but clearly it was spotted by someone with an understanding of what it was (i.e. not a toy at all) because it sold for £6,300 which was some way over its estimate of £2,500 - £3,000. You could have bought a real Morris Minor for that sort of money. Hopefully it went to a good home - the British Motor Museum or even MMOC.

The catalogue description is very brief with no info on the dimensions and only says:

Lot Number 6144

Morris Minor: A pre-production model of the prototype Mosquito, forerunner of Morris Minor, circa 1943.

Estimate: £2500.00 - £3000.00

Result: £6300.00

On page 18 of Paul Skilleter's book 'Morris Minor - The World's Supreme Small Car' there is a photo of Jack Daniel's holding the model. Looks to be approx 18 inches long.

Will try and scan it later.

The auction was well publicised. I am not surprised it fetched a good sum. It was a unique item. Good luck to whoever bought it - I would have loved it :)

Could it conceivably have been bought by a member of the MMOC I wonder and, if so, is (s)he likely to 'fess up?

Pity that the hub caps are missing. The N/S quarter light upright was missing when pictured with Jack Daniels.

Looks like it has had a split screen centre divider at some point as well.
