Not seen that model but I have changed my rectangular flat glass for round ones with convex glass, can see so much more now!

For myself, I found any of the clip-on mirrors pretty useless and threw mine away several years ago. I now have the "Lucas replica" door/wing mirrors which are widely available and inexpensive and have fitted them to the triangular panel in front of the quarterlight as many other owners have done. With convex glass, they provide an excellent field of vision and fitting them has made was probably the biggest single improvement I ever made to my Minor :)

Ah that looks nice, when can I get them? Looking at them one hole drilled through the stainless steel?

Can post a shot of the inside

Thanks

I use the mirrors used on 1970s MGBs and Midgets. They work well.

Russ, I can't remember where I bought mine from but several sellers on ebay list them "Lucas style wing mirrors" etc. and I think quite a few Morris Minor specialists also stock them. Make sure you order convex glass though. Very easy to fit: You simply undo the 2 self tapping screws holding that triangular section on and then drill a hole in it (on one side) where you want the mirror to fit and bolt it on. Then refit the triangle to the car with the 2 screws! The advantage of these over the MGB type mirror is that you don't have to drill the painted bodywork of the car - and the mirror is closer to your eyeline.

I agree that the 'Lucas style' convex mirrors work very well mounted as shown above. They hug closely to the doors and are therefore less likely to be bumped out of adjustment by passers by.

However, Russ no doubt wants mirrors for his van. If that is the case, it would be desirable imho for the mirrors to protrude further from the doors to give an unobstructed view past the goods compartment of the van. I have Minor vans and I am very conscious of how poor the rearward vision is. I am toying with the idea of a (permanently on) rear vision camera--in addition to mirrors.

Mine are fitted in the same position as ManyMinors, on the triangular section although I modified the mirror base and silver soldered them in position.
Convex are a must, my flat rectangular ones (in my main photo) were useless.

Many thanks to all I am looking at drilling them and I am not keen on fitting wing mirrors to my pick up unless I have too. I have a set of Winguard heads and PO arms but will try these first

Will post some pics a good few weeks off as you can see

Not the prettiest arangement but good visibility and when painted body colour blends in ok, apart from the mirror clip!

I bought a pair of the mirrors in the first post for my Minor. They were sold as fitting on the quarter lights and try as I might they never did. Thanks to your initial photo now I see where they were actually meant to fit.

In the end I cannibalised my old broken rectangular quarterlight mirrors with those round ones and ended up with a pair of nice round mirrors on the car that I think suits it better than the rectangular ones on the quarterlights. Also my custom bodged mirrors have never flown off the car and been broken on impact like the original quarterlight mirrors.

Those Lucas style mirrors people have posted look interesting though, do they require drilling?

I'm new to this Minor van malarky, but I've already realised that the mirrors on the wings are woeful. Obviously there isn't a definitive solution. My favourite idea so far is this, as it would see past the box.

Ok all good so far I have obtained the same mirrors to those you have, sight concern the thread as you indicated does not pass through the internal side. I f bolt the mirror I don't understand how that triangle piece goes back as the window frame will stop the stud from passing? Advice welcome, I have seen one with a large drilled hole on the inside to allow a socket in. or does one take the frame apart

On that subject can or does any supply those screws? I have stainless steel door frames and those are rusted, one side came off easily but the other is rusted so not tried that one yet

I fitted the idea of "Les" who used a pair of TCA brackets and arms to mount ex GPO mirrors. Drill straight through the chrome finishers, and shape a triangular piece of wood to fit inside. Bit agricultural but works a treat. Forgot to say that I used some polished domed nuts inside.

Hi Russ
I f bolt the mirror I don't understand how that triangle piece goes back as the window frame will stop the stud from passing? Advice welcome, I have seen one with a large drilled hole on the inside to allow a socket in. or does one take the frame apart
Some say that they 'spring' the 'arms' of the triangular corner piece apart with the mirror mounted to it to give enough clearance to get the stud over the frame. If I was doing that, I would shorten the stud so that it is just long enough for the nut to fully engage.

In my case, I couldn't get the passenger side mirror to angle enough toward the driver to get the required view (I know others who haven't experienced this problem, so there are probably variable manufacturing tolerances). I made a wedge piece to sit under the base of the arm to get the required angle. However, this meant that I had to make a largish hole on the inside of the triangle (as shown in the above photo) to do up the nut. This is because I then needed to put a matching but opposite wedge on the inside of the triangle which made it impossible to splay enough to slip the assembly over the door frame. I found my slimmest socket that fitted the nut (they vary in wall thickness) and drilled the hole to just clear that socket. I capped the hole with a 'blind' rubber grommet which looks quite neat and in keeping with the interior environment of the Minor. So, in short, I drilled holes on both sides of the triangle and bolted the mirror on with the triangle in place on the door.

I hope this makes sense and is useful for you Russ
