Petrol filler problem

Post by Stevearniepalmer »

I filled up with petrol on Saturday having driven from home to the national. When I got in the car on Sunday there was a distinct smell of petrol. Some helpful chaps in my local branch had a look and they discovered that fuel has been leaking from the part just underneath where the petrol goes in.I bought the piece of hose that needs replacing but can someone tell me if it makes a difference having a locking petrol cap? Also the ‘clips that are on there look quite old but I can’t find a replacement on any of the usual websites. If they need replacing will jubilee clips of the right size be ok.
It has obviously been leaking for some time because it had started to soften the under seal WHAT A MESS.

The original type wire clips are available from MOSS :-

You can use banded clips (jubilee) but use a type with rolled edges so as not to cut into the rubber pipe.

If you are still unsure how to change the connecting tube, I will help you at the next meeting, just keep your fuel level lower.
