Can anybody tell me what the original carb should be for my 4 door, 59, 948cc, as I'm getting confused between su h1- Su h2, only trying to find out to replace the air filter with the pancake style air filter, reg is 643 cuo,,,,,,,,it currently has a saucepan style filter box, daz.

There were a lot of changes including the carb, either H2 or HS2. The air filter flange is same shape but I think one has threaded holes and one has clearance holes. The easiest way to tell are some simple external differences.

HS2 has an external fuel line from bowl to jet gland. H2 is internal.
The throttle cable approach is more vertical on HS2 and more horizontal on H2.
The throttle cable sheath attachment is on a plate sandwiched with the car/intake manifold and the H2 cable is attached to an angle bracket attached to one of the manifold studs.

From your description I suspect the air cleaner currently fitted is item No: 80, Part No: 12A243 in the link above.

There should be a tag fitted to the carb float chamber - I suspect that it reads AUD924 which is a H2 - 1 1/4" SU carb which is the carb listed for the particular year (1959) of production.

Be aware that you will get a lot more induction noise, the filter will not be so efficient and fitting the pancake filter could upset the fuel mixture resulting in poor performance.

Thanks Phil, have looked at first link and its the same as bottom left pic, at least I know its correct filter, however the second link doesn't work, but as you know your stuff I will take it its the correct carb until I check the float tag, is there a filter box than will be as efficient as saucepan type but looks good like the pancake, (think I'm hungry now, strange,) or will I need to retune carb, thanks for your time by the way, daz

Going the long way round:-
Find the Burlen Fuels home page on the web.
Go into SU carbs.
Use the search facility for Morris cars, Minor.
Click on the respective carb (R/H side of chart) and that should bring up the spares list with what type of carb you should have.

Pancake air filters are much of a muchness and performance quality can vary.
If you do fit one it is best to fit one that is capable of fitting a bell mouth inside as there will be an increase in air turbulence at the mouth of the carb without one which can effect performance.

As regards mixture adjustment you should be able to adjust the mixture without having to re-jet or re-needle. BUT!!!
