Traveller wood frame.

Postby parahandy 15 » Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:45 pm

At last having acquired a traveller as a restoration project, one major job will be replacing the wood all round, easier to replace all than try to patch and bodge.
. Luckily I have a stock of well seasoned ash left over from a previous resto.
have a big bandsaw, planer, router etc etc and have experience in boatbuilding ,same type of work?
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has built a frame... hints tips etc.
There is an e bay seller who is advertising a CD rom of plans for the wooden frame, about £12.. anybody used them?
All sensible advice appreciated. Thanks.

Before I replaced my wood earlier this year someone suggested that I buy the Morris minor traveller book written by Ray Newell. It was invaluable to me and gives step by step aswell as tips of replacing the wood frame. A godsend to me.
Morris Minors..... such fun :D

If you're a good shipwright then you should have no problem witha Traveller frame. As you will know, the arch is cut from sections anf glued/screwed together. I have often wondered about the possibility of cutting and steaming a solid piece...

You need the plans to cut the wood properly, but the old frame will provide a good guide as to how it goes together, and the aforementioed book is very useful.
