Mystery Stencil

Post by panky »

I was cleaning up Ted's petrol tank when I came across this on the front face under all the grime and underseal

Looks like it starts with an A then R then maybe another A a couple of indistinguishable figure then ending in 7 2
Anyone know what it is, maybe just a part No - or something else?

There is good evidence that there were stencil marks all over the cars when they left the factory but these have since been lost through use, dirt and grime accumulations over the years.

Petrol Tanks are denoted 'ARA' plus a two or three part number depending on the year and model.
The 'red' petrol filling pipe would also have a stencil marked.
The rear leaf springs are marked on their top surfaces.

I don't know if there is a definitive list of these 'marked' pieces?
Busy collecting parts for my '52 MM Convertible and 1949 Saloon restorations. :o

Thank you for the info,
No evidence of any other stencils on the car, the tank was about the only bit that hadn't been plated over or bodged in some way  But it's gone now as I had to de-rust and repaint the tank.
