Out with the multi meter, remove bulb.Do you have a voltage reading.. on the supply wire terminal, when light should be switched on ? Is the earth point good not rusted/ suspect ?
Are the internal contacts of the courtesy lamp, wire connections and bulb holder springs clean and sound ? Does the bulb make correct contact when fitted ?
If not work backwards, voltage reading before the switch, etc looking for back connections.
"Wiggle / gently pull "the connections with the meter still connected to make sure it is sound at each point.

The courtesy light has a live feed so there should be a permanent current to the light from the fuse. The curcuit is completed by a switch in the circuit providing an earth. This would either be one of the switches in the door pillars or the switch on the light itself. Use a meter or test light to check all the wires into the light and if non are live then check the connections at the light and fuse box. If you find the live feed but the light still does not work then spray a little WD40 on the door switches and push them in and out a few times.
