cigarette lighter socket

I bought one of thes hoping to install it to charge my mobile while going to Oxford for the National. Has anyone fitted one?, any tips ,the Minor is positive earth.

To use any modern component you will need to convert the car to neg earth. If you want the socket to be permanently live then wire it to the live fuse or to the ign fuse if you do not want it permanently live.

If you dont want to change the car's polarity to negative earth (ground), you can mount the socket on a piece of insulating material, like plywood or hardboard or similar and connect the shell of the socket to negative of the car's wiring (fused of course) and the centre treminal of the socket to the cars earth (ground). The piece of insulating material will have to be fastened ridgidly somewhere so it's not flopping around.

Or just charge the thing with a solar charger......
