Solenoid starter problem

Post by lellyden »

When I turn the key there is nothing no click or any noise. Put a screw driver across the terminals and the engine turned over. But when I turn the key nothing. Will this just mean I need a new solenoid. Many thanks Den

Is the red and white wire connected to the solenoid ?, I would then pull it off, find a piece of wire and touch that solenoid terminal to the live side of the solenoid termnals. That should energise it.

Does the body of the solenoid have a sound earth ?.

You can test the red and white wire from the starter switch by using a test lamp and flicking the key to start, should light up ?.

Invest in a cheap multimeter, invaluable for sorting electrical faults out.
