All the more reason to change the control box for now. If I ever have any more problems with the system I’ll definitely fit the alternator conversion.

I have a battery that alternates between my Moggie ( dynamo ) and my mower . As neither machines are used for long Winter/ wet periods when not in use it is attached to an Accumate charger / conditioner . Now twelve years old and going well . Obviously not an A&B comparison test but fairly certain the Accumate was worth the money .

They’re great. I’ve used them on my motorcycles for years

Club spares will alost certainly have either NOS or known good second hand original control boxes that are liklely to be better than anything being made today, and probably cheaper too. Give Bryan a call or an email, details in Minor Matters.

Bonneville and Thruxton. I’m fine with bikes, never any problem.
It’s cars that are outside of my comfort zone!

Finally. It seems to be fixed, for a while at least!
Red light goes out as soon as it starts. No smoke or nasty burning smells.
Charging at around 13.7v at tickover, it goes up to 16 with increased revs.
So, fingers crossed.

Don’t go on any long motorway runs or keep the revs high. 16 volts into a sealed lead acid battery will kill it. Read my earlier post more carefully - and if you don’t believe me, go and look it up on the internet.

Check the readings with another meter if you can. A guy on the Mini Forum recently had a similar issue and it turned out to be his multi meter reading high.

I agree with 'oliver90' - 16v is too high and will damage the battery. It shouldn't be much over 14v at any revs, certainly not above 14.5v. I assume you cleaned the contacts with thinners on a strip of paper before fitting the new box? If not, you could try that - but make sure you disconnect the battery before doing so! But you say in an earlier post that your old regulator was also showing 16v so it may be, as 'panky' suggests, that your mutimeter is the culprit......

Yes, I cleaned the contacts. If I’ve changed the dynamo and the regulator I don’t see why it would be charging too high. I’ll check it with another multimeter but I’m not going to worry about it too much. I’ll never get to drive it at this rate!
A friend of mine reckoned it might be a problem with the ECU?

A moggy with an ECU! Now that really would cause some interesting discussion.

So now it’s all fixed, I’m looking for a last pitiful advice please.

It’s time for her to move to a different owner.
I’d hoped that it would be something for me and my family to enjoy but my wife won’t drive it due to all the reliability problems I’ve had with it. Hopefully they’re all sorted now, god knows it’s cost enough! And I need a reliable car to get to work.
So, fleabay? Autotrader? Any suggestions?
