Spark plug gap information request.

Post by Flywheel »

I currently have a Lumeniton negative earth electronic ignition system fitted to my traveller. 1098 cc engine.

I’m using Champion N9YC plugs. Can anyone please advise on the spark plug gap? Any information gratefully received. Thanks.

You have the correct plugs. The standard gap is 25 thou. I'm not aware that Lumeniton recommend any variation, but I'm open to correction if anyone has better information.

I seem to remember that aftermarket electronic ignition manufacturers always tended to recommend an increase from the standard 25 thou to 30 thou which, allegedly, gave a more complete, cleaner burn. Got to be worth a try I would have thought.

There is no specified spark plug gap listed in the fitting instructions for the Lumenition Performance Ignition system.

The instructions do state:-

' The use of the Lumenition Performance Ignition system does not restrict your choice of suitable spark plugs, gaps or H.T. leads '.

N9YC spark plugs are suitable with a 0.025" plug gap.

Only if you have a performance coil which puts out a higher output should you increase the spark plug gap.

I have the Lumenition Optronic ignition system fitted to my Minor with a Lumenition performance coil and the plug gap is set to 0.030".

Hi Phil, my car has a standard coil fitted, so I'll set the plugs to 25 thou.

Thanks Jonnie.👍
