Brake lights not working

Post by Geocha2268 »

How do I tell if the brake lights not working is a wiring problem or the light switch? I've located the switch to near the radiator, how would I tell if the switch is the problem?

Thanks

Disconnect the brake light wires from that switch and hold them together will see if the brake lights work. I promise you won’t get electrocuted 😉.

Or check continuity on the bulb.

And just generally check connections.

Brake light switches are poor nowadays.

Also what year is your Morris ?.

Do you have a test meter? If so, there should be 12 volts across the switch when ‘off’ and very little when the brakes are operated. Or high resistance when opened and virtually zero resistance when closed. Either test actually checks the switch.

Touching the two wires together only indicates which part of the circuit is faulty if the ‘live’ lead actually has both voltage and good conductivity.
