found a great source for heated screen timers and they are a total doddle to wire up!!

GLR10 timer relay 10 minutes capacity 20 Amps wire diagram here
they are specified to turn on (for about 10 minutes) and if the switch is pressed again they turn off early, simply wire warning lamp in parallel with screen and away you go
