Driving test in a Morris Minor.

Post by Chief »

It's possible/likely this has been posted before or that it was well known but I figured that since I never find any results for this when using the search function/google that other people may find this thread and get the answer they seek. I couldn't really think which forum to put it in but I guess it is a useful tip.

Anyway, I was checking with the DSA about using my Minor for the driving test since I wasn't sure if the lack of head restraints would be permitted since they're a required item on the practical driving test website's list:

https://www.gov.uk/practical-driving-te ... ving-tests

That and I wasn't sure if the old style original 60's seat belts would be permitted either.

The great news was that they got back to me to say:
I have spoken to our technical standards department regarding this matter.

They have confirmed your car is acceptable

As the original design did not have head restraints you are not required to fit an aftermarket seat

Yours sincerely,

Colin McGlen

Whether the new test will require an accessory/cigarette lighter socket for the examiners SatNav is another matter of course.

Took my test in a Minor without problems. It was 1969 though...

I took my full test in my 51 minor

she wanst impressed that the passenger seat couldn't slide back, and I made sure to mention that I knew what the speed limit was, but I just couldn't go that fast.
At the end she said most people leave these old girls at home when they take their test

Quite a few driving schools used to use Minors for teaching in and I have seen a few restored in that livery
