Finding car history from engine number?

Hi is there a way of finding car histories from engine numbers? I have done similar with DVLA using Registration details but wonder if it's possible the other way round. Thanks, John

Well the engine number would tell you what make of car it was from and whether it was a factory replacement unit. You could then compare this to the number on the bulkhead on older cars or the heritage certificate if you have one to see whether it is the original engine.

I presumed you had a Minor engine, not one from an MG + 'tother from an Ital!

Post the numbers on here, someone is sure to know!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
