Recommended body shops near Eastleigh Hampshire?

Post by MoggyBlue »

Heya everyone

My moggy is in need of welding and well sadly I havnt built the skills up yet to want to attempt to repair my moggy myself

My MOT runs out end of this month and I have a feeling it will fail because of this

So does anyone recommend anywhere that can repair this and not cost stupid money (college student)

My friend says filler over to get it through  my college says they can't do the welding and they offered me a body shop but want to see if there is anywhere else closer :S

Or even a member possibly but I'm sure they have enough rust to repair themself
This is the scary pictures

Rear quarter behind the drivers door[frame]Image[/frame]

And front end of the rear arch so it's as if the arch started rusting and rotted the quarter panel out[frame]Image[/frame]

Hello, I will be doing some welding soon on my '54 and you are welcome to come and see and maybe practice welding some scrap, which is how I learned to weld. I'm near Romsey so not too far away. Alternatively there is a good trade welder nearby but he charges £30 an hour. let me know if you are interested. Ian

I find with welding you get what you pay for, £30 sounds a fair price to me. I have some friends who specialize in Beetles and thats what they charge an hour.

The rear quarter would probably fill quite nicely, although the inner arch would want welder in my opinion.

I wouldn't advise filling as its only a bodge and you will end up doing it again :( .I would think you will find a lot more hiding away sadly but when done will provide you with a good car :)

Well I would obviously repair it after the mot and not leave it :-? Haha but still deciding what to do and yeah there's going to be alot hiding I will take some pics with the wing off and how much body I achually have left after  absolutely dreding doing it :-? But I guess it's going to have to be done really :S then I will probably know what to do about it hopefully ill b doing it tomorrow

And yeah it will be a good solid car appart from this there's a bit of work that needs doing same place but other side but it's nothing like this, and then it's just surface rust in spots but bottom of passenger door has rotted out and the N/S front wing has rotted away from it's bracket down the back of the wing but I'm just keeping my eye out for a good one

Ok so thought I'd grin and bear it and have a look how little car I have left

And well, honestly, It was alot better than I was expecting but it will need a new plate for the floor the outer rear quarter and a bit of repairs in the arch in other words the whole corner will need rebuilding up I kept the corner on there for reconstruction perposes but that will also need removing [frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
This is in the rear arch that screw hole is for the wing to bolt in, you can kind of see what need reconstructing

Ask at your local branch, They will probably direct you to someone knowledgable at Morris Minors who may charge £20 or £25 per hour and do a much better job than a "body shop". Body shops generally only deal with accident repairs these days.

You need a restorer and preferably a Minor specialist restorer.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Would be pleased to see you at our and your local Morris Minor branch which will be meeting at the Queens Head, Fishers Pond on the 16th Sept at about 7:30pm.
You will get plenty of advice regards local repairers from local members.
A good bunch and they do not bite but talk a lot about Minors :D
