Maximum total passenger weight

Post by Matthlowe »

Hi everyone, hope you can help. I'm a complete novice here and thinking about buying my first Morris Minor (I've always loved them!). I was wondering what the max passenger weight for the car is because I need to ensure before I get my heart set one getting one that me and the family will all fit in!

Also any top tips on things to look out for when buying would be great.

Many thanks

Matt

Hi Matt and welcome to the message board :D
Not sure what the max weight is but they are a small four seater family car. I've had four hefty adults (including my bulk) in my traveller and it coped OK but I wouldn't particularly like to go long distance with us all on board. But two adults and a couple of kids would be fine I reckon, the noises a Minor generate would drown out the kids nicely:D
It's show season so why not get along too a few and be cheeky and ask if you can sit in, don't pick one with mirrors showing the underneath and warning signs al over it  I'mn sure the majority of owners would be only too happy to show you around - if you happen to be at Tatton Park this weekend I'll let you loose on mine :)
There's a buyers guide on here somewhere, try the search function on the top right of the page. Good luck.

Never had a problem with weight. We've been abroad on holidays in our (completely standard) Minor 1000. We're a family of 5 plus luggage :D . It was fine. A little cramped but the car coped perfectly well.

Thanks everyone for all the responses - you are all making me feel very welcome.

Now I don't have to worry that we'll not all fit in I can start my hunt :)

I'm based 'up north' in County Durham and I've seen a couple for private sale locally that are just within my meagre budget!! :)

Take someone who knows Morris Minors with you when you go hunting and if possible arrive in a Minor, it gives you a psychological advantage. beware of fresh underseal, and remember that if it looks bad on the surface it will be worse inside so walk (or run) away.
