Thanks!

I wasn't expecting that photo to work as I've been having issues loading them lately. Stevey showed me a different way to reduce them and seems to work!

So purchased unseen last week, though viewed by a friend Geoffrey and delivered by him on Tuesday. Has since had all the seats pulled out and finally got the modified side screens out a few minutes ago as there was one rusted nut in a really awkward place.

I was offered it over 20 years ago when I worked in the bank by one of the customers, at that stage he was looking around £10k. Its had a serious amount of work done at some point and never been finished properly, and now been stored so long that the paint has deteriorated quite a lot. I know it looks nice and shiney but its not as good as it looks.

I reckon it dates to around March 1950. Busguy, John has dated the number to between December 1949 and April 1950 so that ties in nicely. Stevey also uncovered the chassis number on the bulkhead today and that is correct too :D

The heritage certificate has arrived and confirmed the build date as 7-9th March 1950 and despatched 14th of same month to a dealer in Edinburgh! Ties in well with Busguy's details from Glasses Guide.

Very nice-looking (even if it's got issues), and do please post more photos as you do work on it. I will need all the Tourer inspiration and advice I can get!

David. I see you've got the dreaded steering wheel drip mark on the seat. Not anywhere near as bad as 2 of my cars, though.

Have you or anyone else found a way to get rid of that mark? I was wondering about trying to get a vinyl dye to rub into the material. Any thoughts?

Lovely car David, and a lovely colour too.
Don't know where you are going to get the correct rear bumper for it.
My black High-light happens to have a low-light rear bumper, it should be a one-piece one (but not as new as the one on your Tourer).
All the best,
George.

I'm startled that a later one-piece bumper fits a 1950 car; is it on the old mounts (folded metal between the wing and boot surround) or new ones (irons protruding through a hole in the surround)? I'd expect the former, but then I think a later bumper would have to be modified.

I know Tourers didn't get one-piece bumpers until January 1951, per the parts book, but unclear to me if the mounts changed at the same time or later ... anyone know?

My tourer still has the folded metal mounts and some kind of very much home made bar to mount them to the fibre glass valence! A similar arrangement is on the front as well.

I have borrowed an original back bumper iron from Frank and when my parcel arrives from Oz it will have a paper sample in to compare it.

I did a little more on the ps suspension and brakes last week, might get some time this week, hopefully!

Different curved profile to the long bar. The Lowlight type steel spring is made with a curved profile whilst 1000 type is made from a flatter section, IIRC. Hard to see in this pic

Super info, thanks, Rob.

Do we know whether the rear folded-metal brackets gave way to the iron-through-the-valence type at the same time the bumpers went from two-piece to one-piece on two-doors and Tourers? (Jan 1951; RHD 83025, LHD 81502 per parts book)

It would make sense that the brackets would change at the same time as the bumper, but ... one never knows.

The tourer came with no paperwork at all unfortunately. I sent off for a Heritage Certificate and with some help from Busguy did some other digging about the history of the number plate. Unfortunately DVLA will not let me keep the number and have issued me with an age related number, new plates are ordered and will be here soon. So for the first time since 1964ish this car is now taxed!!!

Progress to on the engine, its stripped down and new rings and shells needed. All now sourced and awaiting putting back together.

Yes murrayminor, its noted on the tax book as declared manufactured in 1950, nothing about its previous number at all unfortunately.

Plates arrived, quite pleased with them.
