Hello folks,
Anyone know what the paint code is for the earlier brown steering wheel boss?
My latest project as a later Series II gold boss wheel fitted.
Regards, George.

Hello Bobby,
The Series II and Facelift Series II (like your '55 one) came with gold coloured steering columns and a gold steering wheel boss.
The earlier Series MM's had a Brown steering wheel boss, but the steering column was still gold.
What colour is your one?
I haven't yet found a code for the brown.
Your other items can be listed in the For Sale section - what have you got?

Regards, George.

I'm doubtful that paints used for purposes other than Bodywork (and perhaps engines) actually had a company code.
They needed a code to ensure that cars were the right colour after they left the production line, but given that Morris/BMC were very much an assembly plant for items made elsewhere, would they not have 'brought in' the steering wheels/columns already painted from the manufacturer?

I repainted mine with this:

200ml pot for £2 did the steering column, wheel boss and the gear lever. :)
Perhaps a little darker than the original, but it's quite a similar shade to the gold of the earlier dashboard.
It's water based and I just applied it with a decent quality artist's brush.

One colour I have used in spray cans from a local car spares shop was Ford Aztec Gold. There are several golds that are pretty close.

I did likewise with the brown for my MM which did also have a brown painted steering column.

Bryan, my '51 MM high-light has the all brown boss and column

But my latest project, a '50 low-light, has a replacement gold boss and column - these are the bits I need to repaint.

Which brown did you use?
ESM sell a gold paint, but needs to be used in conjunction with a lacquer.
