Moggies on Ebay???

Post by KOOL-MOM »

Does anyone scout Ebay for Moggies like I do? I have now added Ebay UK and AU to my haunts. I find it interesting and fun to see the cars. I`m looking for a nice 4 door or traveller to buy as a "Pet Car" for myself. I need a traveller or a 4 door, I`m not rich, but want one in the best condition that I can afford.
There are some really nice looking ones but I can`t go to England to see them in person. Does anyone have advice on how to get a good car, for a good price from overseas? Also can anyone tell me what a traveller and a 4 door in really good to excellent overall condition as an everyday runner should cost (in pounds) and then what a concourse model in each should cost for comparison? I wish I had a friend to go look at them for me, Darnitt!
Can someone give me an opinion about any there now? I especially like the green split screen #150160261198
Thanks and Cheers!

Ebay can be a good place to look, but so can here and the club mag.
Least if your in the club and use here a lot maybe someone knowledgeable could look one over for you.
Guess your biggest problem if your thinking of importing is going to be the $/£ rate which isnt in your favour.
You might be better looking for LHD models which occasionally come up and dont make such good money here.

If you're buying from the US, I'd really suggest that you buy from a dealer - there's a few that keep stock etc.

(C Ware, ESM, JLH come to mind). I'm sure there are others.

The dealers will be more expensive than eBay, BUT UK legislation requires that dealers supply a road-worthy vehicle - whereas private sales don't. You'll also have some warranty as to mechanical defects.

If you tell them what you're looking for, they will be able to advise costs, parts etc and to keep you on the books to see of something comes along.

You're going to spend a lot on the shipping (search the forum for this - I think that both Nikki & Kate have costed this), so you'll be better to spend a bit more on the car and be certain of its condition.

Have a look on the ESM & Charlie Ware's websites - they are always (in my experience) helpful and understanding.

Cheers,

Colin

Why couldn't you look on e-bay.com they have them in the us as this one was on the .com site

I know a concourse green split screen Morris minor owner that has been offered around £38,000 for his and he refused it. Therefore, they are worth what you want to pay and what the owner thinks its worth. It all depends how much the car is loved by its owner. The old saying you cant put a price on love.

Moggies on Ebay...

Post by KOOL-MOM »

I went to the sites that were suggested and am greatful for the help. I`m in the U.S. and I can`t go look in person. I also can`t afford $15- $20,000 for one here, so was hoping to find one in the U.K. that I could afford with the shipping charges. I joined today and can`t wait to read Minor Matters so hopefully that will help me out. My Sweetie and I went on a long sunny drive today and I can`t wait `till I can do it in a Moggy. I love this site and (please forgive me for this) and would love to have a Traveller painted Highway Yellow with the woodwork stained green at some point. I know Travellers didn`t come in that color, but I think it would be a very perky color combo. Sorry for that, I`m sure it`s a "Minor Sin", but I love yellow! ; )
Cheers! =^..^=

bonkers colour combo, K-M, respect 8)

If I were you I would buy a car from ESM. I bought my first van from them and never regretted it. (Although that was many years ago now!) I would also trust JLH.

The terms and conditions of this site, entirely sensibly IMO, unfortunately restrain us from offering criticisms of any individuals or companies.

Best of luck with your search! :D

I'd agree that buying one over here and shipping it would be your best option by far - those US prices just crazy! A very good example of a Traveller here should set you back somewhere around five to six thousand pounds, and if you're prepared to have one that is reasonable condition but not top-notch in the paintwork department (because you're thinking of painting it yourself), then knock another grand off that. As for shipping, I have no idea, but you should be able to go to your country's customs people and ask them about this sort of thing. There may even be specialist vehicle importers who could do all the hard work for you, like the inevitable piles of paperwork and stuff like that.

Good luck with your search! :D

I do want to set my fantasy color choice straight with you all. I would only try that with one that needed painting and wood finishing when I bought it. I SWEAR on all that was holy in morris-dome that I would never do that to a perfectly good paint job. PROMISE!! (I pray that the purple salloon that showed up on Ebay with the fuzzy grey seat covers needed painting when that was done to it.)

Please try www.classicautoimports.com a good selection of Morris travellers already in the US. The owners name is Garlan E Hoskin and he is an avid Morris collector. Might save you the shipping costs.

Thank you for suggesting Classic Auto Imports. I found them in August and absolutely love Parker. (even tho he isn`t yellow  ) He`s a bit more that I can afford unfortunatly, but I still go just now and then just to look longingly at him.
