What did you drive in 1985

Post by davidmiles »

I drove this rather boring but reliable Nissan Sunny in the 80's, it got me to and from Germany regularly and only broke down once in the late nineties, It finally went to the great scrapheap in the sky in 2001 when some prat in a stolen car crashed into my rear end at a roundabout near Littlehampton Golf club. Thus ended a era that has introduced me to the Morris Minor[frame]Image[/frame]

Series MM Morris Minor and I am still driving it.
Also a Rover SD1 V8. Petrol prices were not quite so astronomical and I was getting a reasonable mileage rate which the government was not thieving back in taxes

Austin princess 2200 in that horrible puke yellow leyland loved to use, it was a good motor but pretty thirsty with that 2.2 straight 6 but it handled like a big mini and was much better at conering than a cortina I hired for the day, nearly lost it on the first roundabout as i was used to flying round em in the princess.

I intend to live forever.....so far so good

In 1985, I might just about have been able to point at a car and know that it was a car but I certainly wouldn't have been able to drive one.... (not even a pedal car....)

A ten speed Raleigh racing bike, tasty! I think it was around then my Father got hold of an A-reg Sierra as our family motor....part-ex'd a W-reg Ital....(shudders at the memory of that piece of.....!!! :o )
Actually I remember he'd traded in a '70s Vauxhall Victor he'd had for yonks for the Ital and complained about it (the Ital) being an awful car from day 1.
I recently had a chance to drive an Ital my mate was restoring and I stopped and got out after ten minutes telling him it was bloody awful and I would prefer to walk!
Someone did tell me that the Marina/Ital is only good for parts to upgrade Minors. Sorry to offend any fans, but IMHO, he's right!
